Capturing and Documenting Memories

Posted on May 31st, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

You plan then plan more and finally baby arrives. Suddenly, your life is in fast forward mode and you are doing your best to stay awake and to cherish every moment with your newborn. From ultrasound pictures to baby shower cards, birth announcements, pediatrician visit charts and digital prints it’s amazing how anyone could organize these items in order to review them in the years to come.

Ideally you would want to use these items to create scrapbooks and memory books or art and display them in your home or in baby’s nursery. However, once baby arrives, it can be challenging to find opportunities to sit and to design a well thought out book or creative piece.

Given the circumstances of your life, start thinking outside of the box for ways to capture and document your child’s development and to effectively save mementos. Before you begin, purchase a plastic storage container for your items. Store the container in your baby’s closet or in a designated space so you can continue to add items and ensure that everything can be found in one place. You can also purchase envelopes and folders to label and store inside the bin so you can separate items by activity or by age.

A simple alternative to hard copy scrapbooks and memory books is on-line photo sharing. You can create an album for family and friends by downloading your photos to an on-line vendor such as Snapfish. If you want prints, order your favorites and save them in a labeled envelope to work with during the next half of the year when your child is on a more regular schedule. If you want to keep your photos on your local drive, consider purchasing an inexpensive and user friendly scrapbook software package. You can find these packages at Target or at on-line retailers.

A terrific way to celebrate your child’s first birthday is to host a scrapbook party in honor of your child. Pull out your bin and have each person select an envelope or folder to use for a scrapbook. You can supply the tools and your friends and relatives can help you design some special pieces for your child in lieu of store bought presents. Since your child won’t participate in the scrapbook party, treat her or him to a family lunch or dinner at a kid-friendly restaurant with a few friends and your immediate family.

If you are still searching for time and energy to complete a scrapbook or art project with your child’s special items, consider enrolling in a scrapbook class or art class that will allow you to use your own pieces to create keepsakes. Not only will you finish your projects, but you will have an opportunity to spend some well deserved mom time outside of your house.

What is the Foreign Exchange?

Posted on May 31st, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Foreign Exchange is the simultaneous buying of one currency and selling of another. The off exchange retail foreign currency market ( FOREX ) is the largest financial market in the world, with a volume of over $1.9 trillion daily. Unlike other financial markets, the Forex market has no physical location, no central exchange.

It operates through an electronic network of banks, corporations and individuals trading one currency for another, spanning from one zone to another across the major financial centers. Traditionally, investors’ only means of gaining access to the foreign exchange market was through banks that transacted large amounts of currencies for commercial and investment purposes.

Trading volume has increased rapidly over time, especially after exchange rates were allowed to float freely in 1971. High liquidity - The Forex market with an average trading volume of over $1.9 trillion per day. It is the most liquid market in the world.

Low transaction cost - The retail transaction cost (the bid/ask spread) is typically less than 0.1% (10 pips or points) under normal market conditions. At larger dealers, the spread could be smaller. Uncorrelated to the stock market - A trader in the Forex market involves selling or buying one currency against another.

Thus, there is no correlation between the foreign currency market and the stock market. Bull market or a bear market for a currency is defined in terms of the outlook for its relative value against other currencies. If the outlook is positive, we have a bull market in which a trader profits by buying the currency against other currencies.

Conversely, if the outlook is pessimistic, we have a bull market for other currencies and traders take profits by selling the currency against other currencies. In either case, there is always a good market trading opportunity for a trader. Inter-bank market - The backbone of the Forex market consists of a global network of dealers.

They are mainly major commercial banks that communicate and trade with one another and with their clients through electronic networks and telephones. There are no organized exchanges to serves a central location to facilitate transactions the way the New York Stock Exchange serves the equity markets. The Forex market operates in a manner similar to the way the NASDAQ market in the United States operates, thus it is also referred to as an over the counter ( OTC ) market.

No one can corner the market - The Forex market is so vast and has so many participants that no single entity, not even a central bank, can control the market price for an extended period of time. Even interventions by mighty central banks are becoming increasingly ineffectual and short lived. Thus central banks are becoming less and less inclined to intervene to manipulate market prices.

Work Experience Abroad

Posted on May 31st, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Getting a work placement abroad is a great way to gain valuable experience in the work place with the added bonus of experiencing and understanding other cultures and seeing other parts of the world. But before applying for a placement, it is extremely important that you do your own research into what it is exactly that you wish to achieve and what kind of work you wish to do in order for you to gain the most out of your experience.

Work experience abroad is not just about getting paid. In fact, in many placements, you will not get paid for the work that you do. Often the placement may be a voluntary placement and you must remember that being paid a salary is not the point of getting work experience, especially abroad. What you will learn on a cultural and personal level will be invaluable for adapting to other environments and work situations in later life and the experience will be something that you will always remember.

What to do before you leave

Firstly, the most important thing that you have to decide is how you would like to organise your trip. You must decide first of all whether you would like to organise the trip and work placement totally by yourself or through an organisation. However, whichever way you decide to approach getting a placement, research, done by yourself, is paramount to getting a placement that is right for you and is important for ensuring that you can make the most of your placement and enjoy it as much as possible. Going through an organisation does reduce to some extent, the paper work and research that you would have to do by yourself since organisations have access to and information already on the kinds of placements that are available and have established contacts with many other companies abroad. Understanding the laws of the country, company welfare policies towards their staff is imperative before embarking on a work experience placement.

How to prepare for the country you are going to

In preparation for your work experience placement there are a few things to consider. Firstly, and most importantly, is the issue of language. If you are going to a country where the language is different to that of your mother tongue, you should be able to speak at a standard that will enable you to, at the very least, carry a basic conversation with those that you will be working with.

It is very important to familiarise yourself with the customs and traditions of the country and to find out about daily routine. For example, finding out whether the company you work with takes a siesta, how many hours a day will you be expected, on average, to work etc. You must search the job market and find out what the requirements are for specific roles and jobs that you might be interested in. It is also important to find out costs of living; how much food costs, how much accommodation costs and what you should expect to pay for travel and getting around.

Research on healthcare, taxes and insurance is necessary to help you to adapt to your surroundings easily. Much of the necessary information that you will need can be found on the Internet or through making phone calls direct to organisations that deal with placements or through phoning the company that you wish to work for directly.

How to establish yourself once you are out there

Once you have arrived at your placement, it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the local transport and information services, which can be obtained either through the Internet or through local tourist information centres.

It is important that you make yourself as comfortable and integrated as possible in the culture that you will find yourself in, in order for you to gain the most from your placement. You will benefit greatly by reading local newspapers, making an effort with your neighbours and work colleagues and participating in local activities or local groups out of office hours. You will come to understand the culture and the local community much better and will come away with much more than just an office experience, you will have gained an insight into another way of life and way of living which any future employer will value. Above all it will be a valuable experience that you will remember for the rest of your life.

FAQ’s

How important is it to speak the language of the country I will be working in?

You should at least be able to get by at a basic level and be able to carry a conversation with those around you. Obviously, you will get much more out of the experience if you are able to communicate well with those that are working and living around you and you will be intergrated much quicker into your surroundings and feel more settled.

Will I get paid?

Some placements will pay you and others will not. Many placements are voluntary placements and are in conservation or welfare and more often than not these are unpaid. However, it is up to the discression of the employer and it is up to you what kind of work you wish to be involved with.

Where will I live while I am abroad?

Some employers that employ staff from overseas provide accommodation but this is not so for every case. It is best to ask your employer about these arrangements before you go. Like any city or country, there will be hostels, rooms and apartments to rent or share if you would prefer.

Will it be expensive living and working abroad?

Living costs vary greatly from country to country and city to city. In some instances, you will find that certain things are a lot cheaper while others are a lot more expensive. Talk to anyone who has worked or lived abroad and they will tell you that it is very impotrtant to do thorough research into the costs of living and have a realistic budget.

What will I gain from working abroad?

Work placements abroad allow you to differentiate yourself from the rest and stand out from the crowd by showing you not only have experience in a given field, but also that you have demonstrated your ability to live and work in a foreign culture. This adaptability looks extremely good on your resume and is attractive to any prospective employer, not to mention the rich personal experience of travelling and experiencing another culture. It can and should be one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of your life.

Age Doesn’t Matter With Aging Skin Care Treatments

Posted on May 31st, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Your skin is a very important part of your body. The overall wellbeing of your body is reflected on your skin. If you are always out and about, exposing yourself to too much sun, your skin may be damaged by Ultra-Violet rays of the sun. If you are not watching what you eat and not living a healthy lifestyle, the lack of vigor will show on your skin. If you do not apply creams or lotion to keep your skin moisturized, your skin will become dry. It will not help knowing the fact that no one stays young forever. But there is always a way around it! Aging skin care is a very easy method to erase a few years and look younger than your real age.

Here’s a fact - aging happens the moment you are born. It is best to start taking good care of your skin when you are young. Of course, signs of aging does not show itself when you are young. Wrinkles, dry skin and other signs become visible in middle age. However, aging can manifest in people as young as those in their late 20s.

It is never too soon to start with aging skin care. But first, you must know the processes and causes of aging. Signs of aging are mostly caused by free radicals that damage your skin’s collagen. Collagen is made up of elastic proteins that keep your skin tight and smooth. On the other hand, free radicals are basically aerial components, such as oxygen that have been transformed into harmful substance because of the pollution in our environment. These free radicals are very harmful to the skin, as it corrodes and damages anything that comes in contact with it. Since the skin is very sensitive, the effect of free radicals is twice as dangerous.

Being exposed to free radicals makes the aging process twice as fast. What can you do to lessen the effect of this harmful component on your skin? Well, avoid going outside. Direct exposure to sun and wind will do harm to your skin. When you are going out and about, apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30. There are some cosmetic and aging skin care products, such as powder and foundation, that have a built in protection to the sun, so can also check those out. Also, try living a healthy lifestyle. Tobacco and alcohol greatly contributes to the aging process. They have chemicals that corrode the skin and leave it dry, making the skin more susceptible to fine lines. Aging skin care products are also in forms of gels, creams and toners. You may also want to consider cosmetic surgery to permanently erase the age from your face. However, you must keep in mind that once aging starts to show itself, it would be unstoppable. Aging skin care products and methods will be able to help you lessen the signs to aging and make you look younger.

Dog Whispering Behind the Scenes

Posted on May 30th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Ethology is the science that studies behaviors of a species under natural situations. Therefore, it studies instinctive and non-instinctive behaviors that are typical of a species.

Dog whispering is a training technique based on canine ethology. So, it takes into account those behaviors that are natural in dogs, but usually ignore the principles of learning theories.

The fundamental premise of dog whispering is that the owner should become the leader of the pack. This is also known as the theory or paradigm of the alpha dog.

According to the alpha dog paradigm, dogs establish dominance hierarchies in the pack. Thus, you should achieve the higher hierarchy, the alpha dog status, in order to maintain a good relationship with your dog.

Though it is not clear when the paradigm of the alpha dog appeared, it is well known that it gained popularity in the eighties.

Jan Fennell and Cesar Millan are two of the most famous practitioners of dog whispering. The latter is perhaps the most famed trainer at these days, because of his show The Dog Whisperer broadcasted by National Geographic.

Some authors say that dog whispering is based on scientific studies of wolf packs. Others say the technique was developed after studying the social behavior of dogs for several years.

Unfortunately, there are several non-standardized variants of this technique. Besides, some of the technique variants seem to be based only on popular beliefs and not on real studies about dog behavior.

Dog whispering by itself is useless to teach obedience commands. For that reason, many trainers don’t accept it as real training technique. Moreover, it is also frequent that practitioners of this technique don’t consider themselves as dog trainers. Instead, they claim they are people who can communicate with dogs by a deep understanding of dog behavior and proper body language.

Dog whispering advocates claim that the technique provides a natural way to communicate with dogs. Some of these people also tend to use non-violent procedures. However, the degree of violence is highly variable and depends on the method used by the trainer.

Detractors claim that there is a lack of solid arguments in this technique. They also claim that dog whispering is based on popular beliefs, which could be true for several of its variants.

Same detractors usually question the alpha dog paradigm and argue that there’s no need for a model based on dominance hierarchies.

Biologists Raymond and Lorna Coppinger are among the few people who carried out extensive scientific studies on social behavior and evolution of dogs. Their studies reject the paradigm of the alpha dog, and these scientists say that wolves and dogs have very different behavior repertoires. Therefore, studies on the behavior of wolves shouldn’t be useful for a better understanding of dog’s behavior.

Perhaps further studies on canine ethology could lead to a better understanding of dog behavior. Meanwhile, most dog whispering variants can’t provide clear and precise guidelines for dog training; even when there are some really successful dog whisperers like Cesar Millan and Jan Fennell.

Rodrigo Trigosso is a biologist and professional dog trainer. His website www.dog-training-tutorial.com http://www.dog-training-tutorial.com provides great info on canine training and behavior.

Fiddleheads - Music To My Mouth

Posted on May 30th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

When the cool breezes turn warm and the spring sunshine cheers our spirits, that is the right time for fiddlehead season. Depending on the weather, the fiddlehead fronds begin to appear around late April or early May. They can often be found growing on moist fertile ground along river and stream banks, in open woodlands or at the edges of swamps and marshes. Attempts at cultivating fiddleheads have failed, so they are picked from the wild. Fiddleheads have become more popular in recent years, showing up in produce departments of larger grocery stores across the country, and can sometimes be found frozen. Wild Canadian fiddleheads are also exported to Europe as a specialty item.

What exactly are fiddleheads anyway? Fiddleheads are one of Mother Nature’s first and finest treats of the spring season. Fiddleheads are the uncurled deep green fronds of the ostrich fern, so called because the fern resembles the finely crafted head of a fiddle. They grow throughout North America and are plentiful in Ontario woodlands. The native people introduced fiddleheads to the settlers and since then they have been a popular delicacy especially in the Maritimes. The fiddleheads are at their best for eating while young, firm and tightly curled. They tend to lose their table appeal as the fern stalk reaches about 6-8 inches and the frond begins to uncurl. Fiddleheads are delicate in flavour and tastes like a cross between asparagus, green beans and okra.

Fiddleheads are rich in iron, potassium, niacin, riboflavin, magnesium, phosphorous and vitamins A and C. Fiddleheads were highly prized by the native people as a medicinal plant and were said to act as a natural cleansing agent, ridding the body of accumulated impurities and toxins. It was also said that fiddleheads were regarded as an old-time treatment for high pressure and used to ward off scurvy.

There are many varieties of fiddleheads including: Bracken (found worldwide), Ostrich Fern (the one found in Canada and northern regions worldwide), Cinnamon Fern or Buckhorn Fern (found in the Eastern parts of North America), Royal Fern (found worldwide), Zenmai or Flowering Fern (found in East Asia), or Vegetable Fern (found throughout Asia and Oceania). Of course, here in North America the one we eat most is the Ostrich Fern variety. Although other ferns produce fiddlehead-like shoots, some can be toxic and inedible so it is important to identify the correct variety if you are picking fiddleheads in the wild. Also, Health Canada advises that fresh fiddleheads must be properly cooked before being eaten. In 1994 several instances of food poisoning were associated with raw or lightly cooked fiddleheads. No definite source of the food poison was identified, but authorities recommended the thorough cooking of fiddleheads to counteract any possible unidentified toxins in the plant.

If you do choose to go fiddlehead hunting, here are a few tips to aid your search. Fiddleheads grow in clumps and should be picked in a “thinning-out” fashion. By taking only a few fronds from each clump, this allows the plant to grow for the following season. Maintaining sustainable harvesting methods is important especially in this particular food species that is not farmed. You can use a small knife to cut the heads at the base, but it is also quite possible to break off the heads easily by hand. A good tip is the always try to harvest the fiddleheads away from roadsides or other areas where they may have been contaminated by pollution.

To store fiddleheads, keep them in a well cooled place wrapped tightly to prevent drying. You may also wish to trim the stems again before using because the cut end will darken during storage. They can be kept in the refrigerator for approximately 10 days, but they are best if used as soon as possible after harvesting.

To prepare fiddleheads for cooking, snap or cut off the stem if more than 2″ remain beyond the coiled part of the fiddlehead. Remove any of the chaff that remains on the fiddleheads by rubbing it off by hand. Then simply wash the fiddleheads in several changes of cold water to remove any dirt or grit that may have accumulated in the coils. Drain completely.

Fiddleheads are very versatile in a cooking sense. They can be used in various similar ways to any firm green vegetable like asparagus or broccoli and are excellent marinated in vinegar and oil, like a crunchy pickle. They are also great when boiled in salted water until tender, served hot with a bit of butter and salt. They are beautiful served as a featured vegetable or can be used in a simple stir-fry. They go well with cheese, tomato or cream sauces and are good to enliven the flavour and texture of vegetable medleys, soups stews or casseroles.

Fiddleheads are sure to become a favourite in any household once the passion for this elegant little vegetable is discovered. Check the Recipes section on the website www.goodcookingcentral.com http://www.goodcookingcentral.com for a few ways you can use fiddleheads in your spring fare.

Writing Articles - Can put money in your pocket

Posted on May 30th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Writing articles has one purpose and that is to generate traffic, not to be written as a sales letter.

Writing and submitting articles can generate huge amounts of traffic and create a very nice income for you, if done correctly.

If you are starting a Home Business and want to make money online than articles are the way to go. Why? Because

traffic generated from submitting articles is all targeted traffic. Because those who search online for information click on your article are searching for what you have to offer.

To see the amounts of traffic and sells needed to become successful online you must write at least one article a day.

More the better you must have at least 200 or more articles submitted to top quality article Directories before you start seeing results from your efforts.

The process is slow at first and than in about six months you’ll start to notice an increase in traffic and sells generated from all those articles you have submitted.

Just stay focused and continue writing more and more articles and you’ll reap the rewards later, in some cases for years to come.

There is money to be made writing and submitting articles. If you don’t give up and quit.

If you are looking for a quick buck, writing and submitting articles is not the answer. You must be committed for the long haul. And sooner or later you’ll profit big.

Your Dogs Outdoor Housing

Posted on May 30th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Ideally, a doghouse should be situated with a southern or eastern exposure in order to benefit from the morning sun and remain in the shade during the hottest hours of the day. It should also be sheltered from strong winds, since dogs are more susceptible to drafts than they are to cold.

The construction should be suited to the climate, well ventilated, and if necessary, insulated. The floor should be raised a few inches above the ground in order to avoid dampness. The house should be cozy enough for him to turn around in when he is in an adult size, with the interior one-third higher than he is.

The doorway or entrance should be no larger than the dog, with a solid leak proof roof, sloped for drainage. The floor should be solid and easy to clean, with wood being the preferred material. A thick layer of bedding, at least two inches, is ideal. Shredded newspapers, cedar chips, old rugs or blankets kept clean by renewal or laundering will keep him warm and comfortable.

A well-kept doghouse should be checked every day for cleanliness, washed down with disinfectant once a month and the bedding changed whenever it is damp or dirty. You can buy a doghouse from large pet-supply firms, or have one built to measure by a local carpenter or lumber yard. Plans are available if you wish to build it yourself.

If your dog is going to live outdoors, buy him in the spring so that he will become accustomed to outdoor life before cooler weather sets in. If he is less than five or six months old, keep him in the house at first, and move him to his outdoor quarters only when he is older and stronger and he has grown an adult coat. If you follow these guidelines, you can rest assured that your pet will remain comfortable during any season.

Randy Jones and his partner Brent Jones have been in the pet industry for a long time. Recently they formed www.joncopets.com http://www.joncopets.com . On the site, customers can read articles about anything pets as well as shop for the latest pet supplies, dog collars and more.

Hawaii: Where Romance Meets Recreation

The lush and accommodating volcanic formed Hawaiian Islands offer an enchanting Pacific, Polynesian paradise for travelers worldwide. The main islands of Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii and Maui, steeped in history and tradition, are temperate and comfortable year-round, as would be expected from their tropical or sub-tropical locale. Travelers arrive by air and ship to celebrate the fascinating Hawaiian heritage.

The island natives have a rich culture based on an ancient Polynesian belief system. The islands are rich with legends, mythology, gods and goddesses. Long ago, island natives planned fishing, planting, harvesting and farming on moon patterns, using the Hawaiian moon calendar. Another traditional practice is the Kumulipo, or song of creation, an ancient chant recited by kahunas, or priests, at important festivals or events to explain the origin of the Hawaiian people.

While traveling, visitors can enjoy authentic Hula and Fire dancing, Tiki parties and luaus, an island tradition gathering large groups of friends and neighbors for a night of dancing, feasting and extravagant entertainment. To ensure luau accommodations, book space well in advance of your arrival on the islands as the most popular events sell out quickly.

Hawaii offers some of the most sought-after surfing conditions in the world. Whether you prefer to watch, learn or participate in the action, the islands’ warm, turquoise waters and massive summertime swells are sure to make a big splash.

Offshore, whale and dolphin watching bring tourists side-by-side with the natural, breathtaking underwater world. Humpback whales seasonally migrate December through April, while the nearby Pacific depths are home to many other spectacular breeds year-round. Hawaii also hosts various dolphin breeds, the bottleneck being the most popular. The Hilton Waikoloa Village’s Dolphin Quest lets visitors swim alongside many well-trained, aquatic mammals. As with all events, advance booking ensures space.

Local cuisine blends the rich tastes of the Pacific Rim, classic American and European favorites for dishes from luscious seafood and fresh vegetables, to tangy fruits and select sauces. Island restaurants serve tastes from as far off as Vietnam, India and Thailand. Feast on abobo (braised pork or chicken), poi and laulau (taro leaves wrapped around pork or chicken and baked to perfection) and mochi (a sinful rice cake). Island-grown grapes flavor select wines while micro-brewed beers offer ideal complement to your meal.

Which Tool to Use for Listening to Your Audio Books?

Posted on May 30th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

The beauty with audio books is that you have more than one option for listening to them.

For those of us who like to be given lots of options for doing certain things instead of being forced to adapt to just one choice, you definitely have lots of options for listening to your audio book.

If you are someone who likes listening while seated on your favorite couch or seated on your desk, listening to your audio book on your cassette tape player (if the audio book is in audiocassette format, of course) is the option for you.

But if you have a desktop or laptop computer, you might prefer listening to your audio book from here.

Most PCs have Digital Audio Players for playing audio books. If your PC doesn’t have any (very unlikely), you can still download them completely free on the Internet. The 2 best digital audio players that you can download free from the Internet include:

RealOne Player: It can be downloaded from their website:-
www.Real.com http://www.Real.com

Windows Media Player: It can also be downloaded from their website:-

But if you would rather listen to your audio book while doing your household chores, dancing, exercising, jogging, commuting to and from work, etc, then you would need portable audio playback devices that you can carry around and listen to, preferably with earphones.

With the ever expanding market of portable audio playback devices, it goes to show that more and more people are now using them, because of the wonderful benefits they provide.

The most common form of these portable audio playback devices are the normal audio CD players or CD-ROM devices. You can carry these around with you while you do your household chores, exercise, jog or commute to and from work.

The more advanced form of these portable audio playback devices for playing audio books, especially those for listening to downloadable audio books, include:

– Audio-ready PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). Some of these PDAs include Casio CASSIOPEIA and Compaq iPAQ. Both can be pretty expensive, costing as much as about $500 for the Compaq iPAQ and about $400 for the Casio CASSIOPEIA.

– Compatible Portable Audio Players. Some of these include the Creative’s NOMAD Jukebox 3 and the SONICblue’s Rio 900. These are cheaper than PDAs. For example, you can get the SONICblue’s Rio 900 for about $250 from sites such as Sonicblue.com

Finally, like I said at the start of this article, whatever tool you decide to use in listening to your audio books will depend largely on how you prefer listening to your audio books.

For example, for the young and restless teenagers they can’t do without the PDAs. I bet you wouldn’t too if you were their age, right? But for the aged and rusty who just prefer the ease of being seated on their favorite couch, nothing can be better than listening to their favorite audio books from their good old cassette tape player!
