The Magic Mandolin Lesson

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

I recently got my youngest son a mandolin lesson. He has never played the mandolin before but I think he really liked the experience and we were both very excited about it. I should admit that I have always pushed him a little harder to play music. I didn’t know if it would happen or not, though. The point is that the whole family plays. My wife is a fiddler, I play the accordion, and my older son plays harmonica and guitar, my daughter - the banjo. I figured if my son took a mandolin lesson he might like it and start practicing. That’s how we could all make music together. But there was a time when my son was not willing to listen to me and he refused to have a mandolin lesson.

The one type of music he only liked was rock and roll. I like rock and I have played it in the past but it is by no means the type of music which could teach you how to play with soul. I grew up fiddling around with an electric guitar. I didn’t care if I was good or bad at it; I only wanted to play a few chords loudly. It all comes down to ego and raucous noise. Mandolin teaches tenderness but my son didn’t even want to hear about a guitar lesson, to say nothing of a mandolin lesson.

However, one night it all changed. My whole family got together. The oldest son is a good harmonica player and a nice guitarist as well but he is kind of shy to play with others. He is 16 and just got in love for the first time. I remember seeing him coming back from his first serious date with that girl. He was really happy and in a great mood. He suddenly picked up the harp and started to play a tune.

The rest of us joined him one by one and finally there were all of us playing together. It really worked; we had never played so well until that moment. Of course, my little son didn’t play then. He was juts watching at us wide-eyed. The following day he wanted to give the mandolin lesson a try. I found a teacher for him but he was impatient to start the lesson immediately. As I can pick a little, I gave him his first mandolin lesson myself.

Owning A Dog On A Budget

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Owning a dog involves expenses that cannot be ignored: purchase or adoption expenses, equipment and grooming, and veterinary fees. The cost of a three month old pure bred puppy, for instance, does not depend on its size but on its breed. Your initial outlay can be quite large; it depends on the place of sale and the quality of the dog.

As for equipment, (collar, leash, and so forth) prices vary with the size of the dog, the sophistication of the equipment, and the materials used. Differences between minimum and maximum costs can be considerable. Nonetheless once bought, many of these items will last the dog’s lifetime.

Apart from the collar and leash, other essentials include: case for carrying small breeds on public transportation; indoor bed or basket; food and water dishes; grooming equipment (single comb and rubber gloves for short haired dogs, brush and durable comb for long - haired dogs). Certain breeds require special grooming and should be professionally groomed at least four times a year.

In addition to the above, there are daily food costs which naturally, rise in proportion to the size of the dog. Veterinary expenses are difficult to anticipate since they depend on the animal’s basic health. However, there are some that are definite. For instance, a puppy should be examined by a specialist once a month for the first six months.

Most small dogs or toy breeds require dental attention twice a year. Then there are the optional operations of neutering or spaying. Cosmetic surgery, which is essential for certain breeds of show dogs, may include ear - cropping or tail docking, and sometimes both, in certain countries. Buying or adopting a dog is a serious step and you should never act on impulse or be swayed by pity. Before acquiring a dog, always make sure you obtain every available guarantee in writing.

5 Natural Steps to Prevent Hair Loss

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

It is always easier to stop something ahead of time instead of waiting and stopping it after it has already happened. This is the same with preventing hair loss in comparison with waiting until you’ve already lost your hair and trying to re-grow it. Preventing hair loss can be done as early as age 18 or 20 and it is a wise decision especially if you have a family history of baldness or thin hair. The sooner you plan ahead the sooner you will see results and the less of a chance you will go bald in the future. No one wants to go bald and you don’t have to if you take the proper steps. Here are a few remedies and solutions to preventing hair loss to the best of your abilities.

1. Number One- Eat and drink biotin. Biotin is a very essential vitamin that will aid in hair growth and you can get this in foods such as honey, milk and bananas. A great, healthy and tasty way to get biotin is to make a blended shake with these ingredients and yogurt.

2. Number Two- Stop stress! Stress is one of the leaders for hair loss reasons and the least amount of stress you allow in your life the better for your hair. Get a stress ball, get a massage and do whatever you can to release all the stress from your life.

3. Number Three: Massage your scalp every time you shampoo your hair. Massaging your head in the shower not only cleanses your scalp but it also increases the blood flow and circulation within your head. This is even more important as you age because circulation slows down the older you get and you should keep circulation in mind.

4. Number Four: Sleep! Sleep cures a lot of problems and it is vital to keeping the entire body in sync and healthy. Your hair is only one of the things that will benefit from getting proper sleep (7 to 9 hours of sleep per night consistently).

5. Number Five: Get Vitamin B in your everyday foods and supplements. Vitamin B is one of the most essential vitamins you can get and Vitamin B6 a key to healthy hair. If you don’t feel that you are getting enough Vitamin B in your foods everyday then you should look into getting a good vitamin supplement to go with your daily regimen.

While baldness is largely a hereditary issue, that does not mean you can’t prevent it and fight against it. Once again, the best time to begin the hair loss prevention time is in your late teens to early 20s. Getting a head start on your hair loss potential is a good idea and will pay off in large ways as you get older and your hair thins out.

Wedding Cost Saving Advice: Top 5 Tips For Weddings On A Shoestring Budget

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

With the average wedding now costing ?17,000, many couples are now looking for ways to have a ‘celebrity’ stylish wedding, without the celebrity price tag. The first tip is simple - ask for a discount. The worst that can happen is that they say ‘No’. You might be a bit embarrassed, but what have you lost? We’ve pulled together 5 other top tips to help you create your dream wedding on a shoestring budget.

1. Choosing The Wedding Venue

Your venue is probably going to be the single biggest wedding expense that you’ll have to pay, with many of the more popular venues charging ?2000 upwards. But you don’t need to spend this sort of money to have a fabulous venue.

Wedding Venue Cost Saving Tip:

Many village halls, golf and rugby clubs have suitable rooms available for a fraction of the price. The trick is to see past the existing d?cor and imagine it sprinkled with hundreds of fairy lights or candles - think of Ross’s wedding on the hit show Friends that Rachel ruined!

If you’ve found the wedding venue of your dreams, but it looks as if it will be out of your budget, don’t despair. Many venues offer significant discounts for mid-week or ‘out of season’ weddings which can run into thousands of pounds.

2. Food At The Wedding

Deciding what kind of menu you want to offer for your wedding can be difficult enough without having to see the price tag that goes along with it!

Food Budget Cost Saving Tip:

There are lots of ways to cut back on your food budget, and still have a memorable day. Selecting a venue where you can bring in your own caterers is often a much better value than using the existing venue catering. You can even go as far as preparing all the food yourself, though be careful of taking too much.

If you don’t have a choice about which caterer you use, there are still ways that you can trim your spending costs. Try replacing the starter course with canap?s, instead of having both. Or, replace dessert with your wedding cake - so often wedding cake gets forgotten about because guests have already had so much to eat.

A new idea that brides are buzzing about is the wedding ‘cheese’ cake. Literally, it is three slabs of cheese turned into a wedding cake for that special ‘cutting of the cake’ photograph and ceremony. Why not combine the two instead of having a separate cheese and cake course? Or serve this with crackers, chutney and pate for your evening guests?

3. Drinks At The Wedding

To have a free bar, or cash bar? Such a difficult question to answer. Of course, it would be fantastic to offer a free bar to all your guests, all day, but with limited funds, it’s not a realistic option for most people.

Booze Budget Cost Saving Tip:

The ideal in this instance is to use a venue where you can bring your own booze. I was lucky enough to be able to do this at our wedding and managed to pop across to France and buy 180 bottles of wine and 240 beers, plus Pimms and cassis for under ?500. We had stacks left and our guests were restricted to beer, wine or soft drinks, but no one seemed to mind.

Another option is to come to an arrangement with the hotel regarding corkage. A friend got married in a hotel, which charged ?10 per bottle of wine. She arranged a flat fee of ?500 for all of her beer and wine opening. Although it seems like a lot, it meant that she could afford to supply beer and wine for her guests.

4. Bridalwear

With most bridal dresses starting around ?600 and running into thousands of pounds, this is a huge expense.

Bridalwear Cost Saving Tip:

You can still look fabulous for a fraction of the price and feel that you’re minimising the eco-footprint of your wedding by buying a ‘pre-loved’ wedding dress.

Many charity shops have specialist ‘bridalwear’ departments where you can purchase new and designer dresses that have been worn once. You can try the dresses on before buying and you’ll get a warm glow from doing something for ‘Charidee’.

If you’re a little braver, you can venture online, where there are some fantastic bargains to be had in the ‘pre-loved’ lines. Take a look at some of the ‘For Sale’ forums of the popular wedding websites and you’ll see bridal dresses, veils, tiaras and those Jimmy Choo shoes that you know you want for a fraction of the cost.

5. The Wedding Photography

Many couples feel that photography is a major part of the day and are prepared to pay upwards of ?2000 for a beautifully presented wedding album. Photographers have confirmed that it isn’t the actual photography, which is the major part of this expense, but printing and preparation of the formal wedding albums.

Wedding Photography Cost Savings Tip:

Many photographers are prepared to attend your wedding day and then provide you with a DVD of your photos for around ?600. With the DVD, you can then use some of the fantastic online services to prepare your own ‘Photo Book’ - costing much less. Or, as many guests will no doubt have digital cameras with them, combine place cards with little notes asking them to share their wedding photos on your online directory.

Another excellent tip for having a photo keepsake of your wedding is to use several Instant Photo Guest Books, which combine Polaroid Instant Photos and hand-written sentiments from your guests. These photo guest books are ready to enjoy the “instant” your wedding is over — and creating them adds great fun to the wedding reception!

Bad Credit Unsecured Tenant Loan - Ensure Hurdle Free Finance at Better Terms

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Tenant usually does not own property that could enable them to take a secured loan. They have to go for an unsecured loan which comes with harder terms and conditions laid down by the lender. On the top of it if tenants have bad credit the loan becomes all the more difficult task. Bad credit unsecured tenant loans are especially made for tenants going through bad financial phase. The loan is provided in a hassle free manner and can be utilized for whichever purpose the tenant wants to put it in use.

Bad credit is labeled against a tenant’s name because he or she has repeatedly defaulted in payments. Such tenants may have faced CCJs and even may have filed for bankruptcy. Credit score of these tenants on FICO scale of 300 to 850, often is below 600 considered as risky for a loan offer. Still one can take bad credit unsecured tenant loans without bothering much about bad credit.

Tenants with bad credit should prepare a sound and convincing repayment plan and present it to the lender to assure safe return of the loan. Tenants should be ready to present their monthly income and employment proof to the lender if asked. Bank account statement also works as an assurance for the lender. Also clearly tell the lender as to why you could not pay off the previous loans in time. Lender will listen you sympathetically and will consider your loan application if convinced.

Being unsecured, bad credit unsecured tenant loans have higher interest rate attached to it. The lender has to cover the risks involved in the loan. The loan is for shorter repayment duration of few years which also is one reason for higher interest rate. These tenants also will get smaller amount under the unsecured loan.

But before approaching a lender, take a copy of your credit report from a reputed credit rating agency and check it for errors. It would help a lot if some easy debts can be paid off as this will show the lender your intentions in paying the loan and better terms-conditions may be offered to you. Apply online for the loan in order to get it approved in shorter time and to reduce the cost of availing the loan. Before applying compare different loan offers.

Bad credit unsecured loans ensure a desired finance to bad credit tenants without bothering much about their adverse credentials. The loan will help you repair your credit score once the loan installments are paid in due time.

The Shawshank Redemption (DVD) Review

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, The Shawshank Redemption amazingly failed to win a single Oscar. It’s amazing because it’s probably one of the top ten best films ever produced. Based on Stephen King’s short story ‘Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,’ the film transcends the typical intellectually and spiritually bankrupt Hollywood entertainment of the modern era with an onscreen artistry that is the closest we’ll probably ever see to poetry in moving pictures. With masterful performances by Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, audience members will find themselves engrossed in a tragic story wrought with suspense at every turn.

The Shawshank Redemption focuses on the life of Andy Dufresne (Robbins), a prominent banker convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. Sent to Shawshank prison in the summer of 1947, the inmates bet on which of the new arrivals will be the first to crack. Ellis “Red” Redding (Freeman), an institutional fixture and the man who can provide anything for a price, puts his money on Andy. But much to his surprise, Andy doesn’t make a sound.

Over time, Andy and Red develop a close friendship, and Red procures a small rock hammer for Andy. As the years go by, he procures other items as well, the most interesting being Rita Hayworth. Red acquires a poster of the screen siren for Andy, and business continues as usual in Shawshank. Along the way, Andy ingratiates himself with the notorious prison guard Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown) and Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton). Putting his outside skills to good use, Andy provides tax advice and tax preparation services to guards not just at Shawshank, but other prisons as well.

Eventually, in exchange for a comprehensive prison library, he ends up running a massive money laundering operation for Norton leveraging prison labor in exchange for lucrative kickbacks. But all goes awry when Shawshank’s newest prisoner, a young punk named Tommy (Gil Bellows) comes forward with shocking information. Andy, who’s spent twenty years in Shawshank prison, might be innocent after all… The revelation ruins lives and destroys Andy’s prison sanctuary, but it’s Warden Norton and his associates who are ruined when the beautiful pin-up Raquel Welch reveals her hidden secret.

Directed by Frank Darabont, producer of such hit films as The Green Mile (1999) and The Majestic (2001), The Shawshank Redemption is a film of absolute breathtaking perfection that ranks near the top of most lists of the best films ever produced. Thomas Newman’s musical score, reused in countless films in the years since its release, blends together with brilliant casting, memorable screen performance, and masterful set design to create an unmatched and timeless epic. If you haven’t seen The Shawshank Redemption, you aren’t just missing out on a great film, but a great life experience as well. Do yourself a favor and see this movie.

How To Compare Residential VOIP Offerings

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Many people are turning to VOIP phone for several different reasons, the biggest reason being cost. The landline telephone has been in existence for one hundred years; however, many people are finding that VOIP offers a great deal more, for a great deal less. There is one requirement though, you must have a broadband connection, otherwise known as a highspeed Internet connection. While there are some minor differences between the traditional telephone and a VOIP phone, many people simply enjoy the money saving features.

What cost savings you say? With a VOIP phone (using your highspeed Internet connection to make and receive phone calls), you can make unlimited local and usually also unlimited long distance calls in the continental US for one price, where that one price is frequently less than the cost of just getting a DIAL TONE from your local phone company. Is it starting to make more sense now?

With VOIP, you receive comparable reliability and quality of traditional telephone service without all the added fees we tend to experience from our phone company. Have you ever opened your bill and noticed the big jump in cost? Here is a personal example, this writer has experienced with a local telephone company. I simply have a phone, yes some of the perks as well, such as call waiting, call waiting plus, caller ID, and caller ID plus. When I ordered the service, of course it was all conveniently placed in a package that was to cost me $35 a month. Imagine my surprise when I open my phone bill and it was $89 for the month, that is just the phone, does not include the cost of internet, which put the bill over $100.

Now you are probably thinking well long distance calls will do that. Yes, it would, except I purposely do not have long distance on my telephone, so that was not the case in this scenario. I had a ton of hidden charges for this, that, and everything else. Now with a VOIP phone, it hooks up directly to your internet connection, and most VOIP providers offer several different packages that are designed to fit both your needs and your budget. For example, one company offers unlimited long distance calling, local calling, plus all the perks such as E-911 service, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, Call forwarding, 3-way calling, and such others, for only $24.99. That is your bill, one flat rate each month. Tell me, which you would rather pay, $89 a month or $24.99 for just about the same service. The choice is clear.

When considering a VOIP phone it is important that you do some comparison shopping. The internet is full of fabulous deals from VOIP providers and it is important that you take a look at the various companies and find the one that fits your needs, as well as your budget. Another thing about VOIP is that you can choose from several different packages with each provider. Some may include a VOIP phone line with long distance, without long distance, or for multiple phone lines, perfect for kid’s phone or a home office.

There are some disadvantages to VOIP service. For example, your fax machine may not work reliably over the VOIP. Furthermore, if you have satellite internet within your home, you may find that the VOIP fails to work in a reliable manner as well. It is very important that you do your homework, finding out exactly what options you have, and what works best for your specific needs.

Jon Arnold is a computer engineer and long-term world traveler who maintains many websites to pass along his knowledge and findings. You can read more about VOIP and a comparison of popular VOIP offerings at his web site at www.voipinsideinfo.com http://www.voipinsideinfo.com

Don’t Sell Too Soon

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

When people search the Web, most of them are asking the question How can I do X? , not Where can I buy X? If you treat your site visitor by answering their question rather than promoting your service, you’re serving them better. You’ll also be way ahead of practically everybody else in your market! While they’re pushing products, you’ll be building high-value relationships.

To do this, you must position yourself as an expert. Because people tend to buy experts for their expertise, not for their price, it’s far easier for you to later sell your products and services. If you require a heart transplant, you don’t say Get me the cheapest heart surgeon!

Here are four simple ways to demonstrate your expertise on the Internet.

— 1. Publish a Newsletter —

Follow these three rules:

1. Get permission before adding anybody to your mailing list.
2. Deliver value (not just advertising) in every issue.
3. Write shorter newsletters, more often.

— 2. Write Articles —

The best articles address problems your clients face in their lives. So forget about the features of the services you offer, and go right back to the problems they solve. If you get stuck, ask your clients!

Then write an article that describes the problem and its solution.

I can give you a couple of formulas for writing your articles, but really this isn’t rocket science! Just write about the problem and give a simple solution for the reader.

— 3. Write a Blog —

A Web log (blog) is like an online journal. When used correctly, your blog can be a powerful marketing tool for your business.

One easy way to write a blog is to answer the most common questions that people ask. Again, you’re tapping into their problems first, and showing your expertise in solving them.

— 4. Write a Free E-Book —

E-books are a great way to promote your expertise, your business, and yourself - for a very low cost. You can sell your e-books, of course (and I do). But I recommend the very first e-book you write is one you give away on your Web site.

Again, focus on your clients’ problems, and write an e-book that solves them. In fact, if you’ve written articles about these problems, just bundle them together into an e-book!

— Remember - You’re An Expert First! —

If you’re just the same as everybody else, you’ll be compared with everybody else - on price, quality, speed of delivery, client service, and so on. On the other hand, when you establish yourself as an expert, your expertise will count for more than any of these other factors.

An introduction to computer forensics

Posted on December 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized by leafs4594 || No Comment

Computer Forensics is the process of investigating electronic devices or computer media for the purpose of discovering and analyzing available, deleted, or hidden information that may serve as useful evidence in supporting both claims and defenses of a legal matter as well as it can helpful when data have been accidentally deleted or lost due to hardware failure.

However, this is a very old technique but now it has been changed a lot because of technological advances, modern tools and software’s which makes Computer Forensics much easier for Computer Forensic Experts to find & restore more evidence/data faster and with more accuracy.

Computer forensics has change the way digital evidence is gathered & used as evidence of a crime & it is done using advanced techniques and technologies. A computer forensic expert uses these techniques to discover evidence from an electronic storage device for a possible crime. The data can be from any kind of electronic device like Pen drives, discs, tapes, handhelds, PDAs, memory stick, Emails, logs, hidden or deleted files etc.

Most of us think that deleting a file or history will remove it completely from the hard disk drive. In realty, it only removes the file from the location but the actual file still remains on your computer. It is easier to track what has been done on your computer but difficult to say by whom though it is possible to alter or delete the data completely from your storage device. It depends on computer forensic expert’s skills how well he can find and restore the data without any loss or change.

Computer forensics got widespread attention during the Enron scandal widely believed to be the biggest computer forensics investigation ever. Nowadays Computer Forensics & Electronic discovery is becoming a standard part of litigation of all types, especially large litigations involving corporate matters in which there are large amounts of data.

Computer forensics can be used to uncover a fraud, unauthorized use of a computer, violation of company policies, inadequate record keeping etc… by tracking e-mails, chat-history, files, tapes, sites people browse or any other form of electronic communications.

Data security is one of the biggest issues that the corporate world is facing now by publishing company’s internet/policies & consequences for violations, signing of compliance documents by employees. Businesses can initiate monitoring their own computer systems to avoid legal consequences in future. Making employees aware that monitoring software and Computer forensics personnel are available could prevent workers from wrong doing.

With the use of computers in everyday life and increasing amount of hi-tech crimes, Computer forensics is a growing niche in the litigation support sector. Unlike many jobs in information technology sector, chances are that computer forensics services will not be outsourced to other country because of the confidentiality of the data business which will not allow it to travel just to save a little cash.
