In fact, his biting demeanor nearly destroys he and his daughter’s relationship, Chelsea (Jane Fonda). When Chelsea brings her new boyfriend Bill (Dabney Coleman) to visit, it isn’t long before Norman stirs things up once again. But Norman and Ethel get an unexpected summer guest when Bill and Chelsea take a prolonged European vacation and leave Bill’s 13-year-old son Billy in their care. It makes for an odd threesome, but as the three learn to live with each other’s quirks, they also learn from each other. But the true test for the new family comes when Chelsea and Bill return from Europe. Can she learn to accept her father’s vices? And can Norman finally be proud of his daughter for who she is?

Hollywood veterans Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda turn in two of the best performances of their respective careers. Fonda is absolutely brilliant as the doddering and cranky Norman. One can’t help but laugh at his antics, although it helps that he has the best written lines in the entire movie. Dabney Coleman, although brief in his appearance, makes an immediate impression when he engages in a classic dialogue with Henry Fonda over the evening’s sleeping arrangements. However, in the end, On Golden Pond works because of the chemistry between the three characters who encompass the majority of the story - Ethel, Norman, and Billy. They bind together to create an epic drama rife with conflict, conquest, and chaos without all the usual Hollywood blood and gore. It’s truly rare to have a film of this nature capture audiences without boring them, and On Golden Pond pulls it off.

Complimenting this strong cast and screenplay is a simple, yet memorable instrumental soundtrack composed by Dave Grusin, veteran TV and film composer known for such works as Tootsie (1982) and The Goonies (1985). Filmed on location on and around the Squam Lakes in New Hampshire, the beauty and majesty of this untainted landscape blends perfectly with its tailor-made soundtrack to create a theme of endless peace and tranquility. Overall, it makes for a rather enjoyable movie experience. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch On Golden Pond. Then, see if you can say “Ethel Thayer” really fast without a lisp!

Don’t forget to record what type of game you’re playing, if that’s important to you. (In my experience, most players stick to what they know and don’t experiment. If all you do is keep up, down and withdrawals, you’re way ahead of most players out there!)

Give yourself realistic goals, such as a ‘dream’ target (new car, holiday or whatever). When you withdraw, add the dollars taken out to your dream counter. The more successful you are, the nearer that dream will get!

Do I ever get tired of giving advice which makes you work harder? Yes. Of course. Who said religion was an easy path to take? But keep following the path and you will become a better, richer poker player!

It all begins with sense of wonder, an almost magical attraction to books by a particular author, a distinctly engaging concept or theme, or the sheer joy of holding a unique volume with a compelling physical appeal. It is important to keep in mind that almost all book collectors begin as readers. Readers become collectors when they find that the books themselves have become important objects in and of themselves. The book has transcended the state of being merely a vehicle for passing on the author’s stories and thoughts and becomes an object with intrinsic beauty and value. Object and content enhance each other, heightening the unique experience the book brings to its owner.

By most accounts, the origin of Science Fiction as a distinct literary genre dates back to 1926, when Hugo Gernsback started publishing what he called scientifiction in a new magazine known as Amazing Stories. Gernsback said, “…sense of wonder comes not from brilliant writing, nor even from brilliant conceptualizing; it comes from a sudden opening of a closed door in the reader’s mind.” Collecting the objects that initiated that amazement is the best way to keep it vivid, alive and immediately accessible.

Almost all SciFi book collectors begin as readers. This is an important point for by far the largest numbers of SF readers see books as consumables. They are content with reading a library copy or a paperback reprint and think of the book as simply a medium for conveying the author’s subject matter. For them, books are as disposable as a McDonald’s hamburger wrapper. They are book consumers.

The joy they receive from a book, and one must acknowledge that very real pleasure, comes from the author’s content alone. All other considerations are inconsequential.

For those of us who are not book consumers but book collectors, the joy of the text is but one of several delights in a book. Look, feel, the very tactile uniqueness of a volume elevate the book from simple container to an object of physical beauty and romance which augments the thoughts and ideas of its author. We take care of our books like we would other valuable objects. We treat them gently, store them properly and do our best to protect them from injury. The very act of owning our books, being able to take them down off the shelf, turn them over in our hands and take pleasure in their presence, enriches our lives and gives continued delight.

Most collectors of SciFi books begin to do so because they have found something in the genre that is inspiring. Science Fiction stretches your imagination, introduces you to a future of endless possibilities and creates a sense of wonder. Included within the realm of Science Fiction are also Fantasy books that take you into the world of magic and myth and Magic Realism books where everyday life is transformed into the supernatural, while yet remaining grounded in reality.

There are other reasons to collect Science Fiction and Fantasy books, the economic value among them. As the popularity of science continues to grow at an astonishing rate the value and desirability of first edition and limited edition Science Fiction books continues to intensify as well. First editions and limited runs ensure that availability decreases over time. There exists a large expanding market for books. A carefully assembled collection of first edition or limited print volumes will become increasingly valuable.

Golf Tips on Clearing Sand Traps

Hazards like ponds and sand traps are prickly areas to play. Even if you’re quite adept in handling lob shots in ranges, executing it in on bunkers is different. It involves not hitting the ball for one. To make an effective shot, the golf club must never touch the ball or you could overdrive it.

To execute it properly, you must understand how being plugged affects the mechanics. First is the sand. No ball rolls better in the sand. It is easy to get your ball out of the sand and back on the green. You can do it even by hitting the ball directly. But hitting to get it close to the hole requires something more. For starters, close the face of your sand or lob wedge. When you execute the stroke, you must dig into the sand to reach beneath the ball. Take some sand with the shot to put a stop on the ball. Remember, this kind of stroke should put some back spin on the ball to limit the amount of roll.

Golf Tips about Backhand Shots

Backhand shots don’t happen very often. But when they do, they make average players look spoofs. In these situations, a lie prevents you to address the ball with a normal stance. Such cases backhand is an option, a difficult option.

Define Essential Hypertension

If your blood pressure reading is 140/90, you have high blood pressure (essential hypertension). Blood pressure measurements are read as two numbers. The higher number is called the systolic pressure. The lower number is called the diastolic pressure. Normal systolic pressure is 120 or less, and normal diastolic blood pressure is 80 or less.

People with systolic blood pressures between 120 and 139, or diastolic pressures of 80 to 89 are considered pre-hypertensive and need medical monitoring and lifestyle changes.

3. Eat a low-fat, low-sodium, high-fiber diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, as recommended by your health care provider.
4. If you smoke, quit. There are additional health risks associated with smoking.
