Are you trying to get that killer body? Millions of people around the world have the same dream, and are also looking for ways to be more physically appealing. The key is finding a fun exercise regime and sticking with it. Have you found one yet? It could be swimming, hiking, biking, or jogging. Regardless of your preference, the goal is still the same. You want an impressive physique that will last a lifetime. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that the workout routines for women are not the same as workout routines for men. Ladies all over the world need to use a slightly different approach.

Are you aware of any effective workout routines for women? Maybe you’re just getting started in your quest of achieving that perfect body. As we all know, exercise and proper diet are necessary if you want to enjoy a long and healthy life. Now, if you are an experienced fitness enthusiast you already may have a few workout routines for women up your sleeve. But, for all you beginners out there, here are a few useful bits of information.

Women are usually not paying much attention to weights and bodybuilding. In fact, many women are not interested in this aspect at all. There is nothing remiss about this. Women are more focused on flat stomachs and toned legs, than having impressive biceps. While this is all well and good, women should not dismiss free weights altogether. Contemporary workout routines for women consider weight training to be essential.

Women need to build muscles if they want to have a nice body. A body with flabby and weak arms would look unbalanced and asymmetrical. The key to a good exercise program is diversity. When considering workout routines for women, you should be looking at the whole picture. A few weight training exercises are just as important as a great cardio regime. If you’re unsure of where to begin, then it’s time to hop on the World-Wide-Web. Cyberspace is loaded with high quality and reliable work out routines for women.

Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning sports. Being the author of several books on the martial arts and fighting, I am always looking for books of exceptional quality to add to my library. If I have a book in my library, it’s definitely worth owning. One such book is David Kahn’s, Krav Maga.

After a brief introduction, David gives you a good basic overview of Krav Maga including some of its history. From here he goes right into a section on philosophy, which is very good, and one in which I would have to agree with about 90% of what he has to say.

The next section in the book gives a good overview on the proper mindset needed in order for you to prepare yourself for combat. Something a lot of books fail to do, but not this one. David also gives you a basic understanding of the vital/vulnerable points on the human body.

David’s next section is rather brief to my liking, but still a good overview on the basic principles involved in striking correctly for maximum effect. This section covers such strikes as; punches, palm heel strikes, elbow strikes, and eye gouges. There is also a small section on blocks and parrying as it is called in boxing.

The following section covers various lower body strikes and kicks along with kick defenses, which include deflections, blocks and grabs. This next section was particularly interesting in that it discussed close combat fighting and techniques essential to this section. Such as; falling, crawling, clinching, takedowns, defenses against tackles, etc.

The escape section was very enlightening as David covered the basic principles of escape from basic grabs, chokes while standing, chokes while lying down, head locks, hair grabs, and bear hugs.

Like most books that try to cover too much in one volume, I feel that the sections themselves although very well done, tend to be too brief on the proper execution of each individual technique. However, having said that, this is to be expected as the scope of this book is intended as a basic overview of the complete system, not a single volume devoted to one particular technique.

The only fault that I have with this book is the fact that I would have preferred actual photographs for demonstrating the techniques, rather than illustrations. I felt that a lot of what David was trying to explain got lost with the use of illustrations compared to if he would have used actual photographs.

The book continues with a brief section on basic strategies, which I found to be very solid. It then finishes with a basic training section which covers stretching, training programs, a 12 week training routine, and sparring.

Overall, this is a very good basic overview on the art of Krav Maga, and one you definitely want to acquire, especially if you decide to join a Krav Maga class. And that is not a bad idea at all. For more information on Krav Maga visit the David’s web site at: www.hammerheadops.com http://www.hammerheadops.com

Do you know someone who is football crazy? Is your Dad a footy nut? Is your brother a soccer Fanatic? This is possibly the bestest Crimbo pressie you can make them. You can make it fit any football team of your choosing, or add an assortment of football teams. You could also adapt this idea to make a net-ball, basketball, or rugby clock.

To make a Football Crazy Wall Clock you will need…

Paint, thick card or an old grocery box, a clock mechanism and clock hands (you will find these at craft shops) and a print out of pattern of football shirts which is available at the link below.

Colour the football shirts in the team’s strip you choose. You can colour them randomly if you wish. Number each shirt 1 to 12.

To make the clock face, draw around a large dinner plate or a tea tray onto some card. An old grocery box is great. Cut out two identical circles, and glue them together so that the lines in the cards structure cross, this will give the clock face extra strength.

Once the glue is dry, paint the clock face green. Again leave to dry. With white paint, paint on a centre line through the middle of the clock face, and paint a kick off circle in the middle of the clock.

Push a pencil through the centre of the clock face ready to attach the clock mechanism. Be very careful and use the old Plasticine trick - Put a ball of Plasticine on the table, put your card on top of it where you need the hole to be, and push the pencil through the card and into the Plasticine.

Arrange the football shirts on the clock face and stick them down.

Push the clock spindle through the hole and push on the hands. The mechanism has a hole for hanging the clock on the wall.

Put a battery in the clock and set the time.

Are You Physically Fit
07 30th, 2008

It can be tough to tell sometimes whether or not you are physically in shape. To that end, there are some tests that you can perform to ensure that your body is working in its top condition. In this article, we’ll be discussing some of these tests, and explaining what they mean about your health.

The Body Mass Index is one of the most commonly used methods of gauging a persons level of physical fitness. Commonly referred to as a BMI, it is the standard method used by medical professionals when it comes to diagnosing whether a person’s weight is healthy, overweight, or obese. The Body Mass Index operates on a basic formula:

Your weight in pounds x 704.5 divided by your height in inches x your height in inches. The result of this computation should rest between zero and an upper bound of more than thirty. Typically, a healthy weight is calculated to have a BMI of between 19 and 24.9. For a Body Mass Index that hovers between 25 and 29.9, a person is described as being overweight. Body Mass Indexes that have a result that is over 30 represent a clinical case of obesity. Obesity can cause a heightened risk of cancer and heart disease, not to mention a host of other health problems.

Another method of testing for fat content in the body is not used as often as it used to be. The Yuhasz skin fold test has been used by schools to test the health of their students for decades, but it has been cast aside due to the way that it made children feel when the result was less than desirable. The Yuhasz test measures total fat percentage in the body by measuring the layer of fat that is found directly underneath the skin. Various points on the body are tested to ensure accurate testing results, with a total of six test sites being examined to accurately gauge a person’s body composition. The tricep, the abdomen, the front of the thigh, below the shoulderblade, and above the pelvis are tested in all individuals while taking a Yuhasz skin fold test. In males, the chest is also tested, and in females, the rear of the thigh is tested. Calipers are used to determine an accurate measurement of how thick the sub-skin fat layer is, and age, weight and gender all play into the calculation of fitness. The typical male has been found to have between fifteen and seventeen percent body fat, and the average female is known to have between eighteen and twenty two percent body fat. Athletes, known for their fitness, often have fat contents of six to twelve percent for males and twelve to twenty percent for females. These two tests can help you to accurately gauge where your fitness level is at and where you need to get it.

Umbria lies smack dab in the middle of Italy. The countryside is unspoiled and dotted with medieval churches. Its fairly gentle terrain is composed of hills, valleys, and small mountains. Umbria is the only region of Italy with neither a seacoast nor a foreign border. But it has lakes, rivers, and even a waterfall. It is known as the green valley of Italy. In spite of this name, until a few decades ago Umbria kept losing population to the more highly industrial north. Its total population is about 830 thousand.

Umbria was settled by the Umbri, perhaps the first inhabitants of Italy. They were forced into the mountains by the Etruscans, who were conquered by the Romans and then the Lombards. The poet Dante considered it the most violent part of Italy.

Umbria is particularly known for pork, dried pasta, and both black and white truffles. It also produces specialty breads and a wide variety of vegetables and meats. Fish and eels from the Tiber River and Lake Trasimeno abound. Cheeses include Pecorino Toscano, reviewed below.

Umbria’s capital is Perugia, a beautiful medieval city with a population of 150 thousand. Among other things Perugia is known for chocolates and Italian as a second language classes. Another famous Umbrian city is Assisi, the home of St. Francis of Assisi.

Umbria devotes about 41 thousand acres to grapevines, it ranks 15th among the 20 Italian regions. Its total annual wine production is about 19.5 million gallons, giving it a 16th place. About 58% of the wine production is white, leaving 42% for red. The region produces 11 DOC wines. DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which may be translated as Denomination of Controlled Origin, presumably a high-quality wine, and 2 DOCG red wines, Montefalco Sagrantino and Torgiano Rosso. The G in DOCG stands for Garantita, but there is in fact no guarantee that such wines are truly superior.

About 30% of Umbrian wine carries the DOC or DOCG designation. Umbria is home to about thirty major and secondary grape varieties, about two thirds white.

Widely grown international white grape varieties include Chardonnay and Trebbiano. The best known strictly Italian white variety is Grechetto, used in the its flagship Orvieto DOC wines.

Widely grown international red grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, and Merlot. The best known Italian red variety is Sangiovese, now grown elsewhere such as in California.

Before we review the Umbrian wine and cheese that we were lucky enough to purchase at a local wine store and a local Italian food store, here are a few suggestions of what to eat with indigenous wines when touring this beautiful region.

Start with Zuppa di Lenticchie di Castelluccio, Castelluccio Lentil Soup, which with local bread can be a meal in itself.

Later try Porchetta alla Perugina, Roasted Suckling Pig with Wild Fennel, Rosemary, and Garlic.

For dessert indulge yourself with Serpentone delle Monache di Perugia, Nut and Fruit “Snake” of the Capucin Nuns.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY While we have communicated with well over a thousand Italian wine producers and merchants to help prepare these articles, our policy is clear. All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price.

Lungaraotti Pinot Grigio 2004 12% about $12

I haven’t always been happy with Italian Pinot Grigio, or for that matter with non-Italian Pinot Gris. These wines often are weak. However, I thought that this particular Pinot Grigio was a fine wine for its price when it accompanied the right food. The sales literature suggested that this light-bodied, vivid, and balanced wine would be a great match for antipasti. My mistake was pairing it with non-imported antipasti, really more of a mediocre relish, which overpowered the wine. I later tried this wine with cold barbecued chicken in a moderately spicy Thai sauce and was quite pleased. Its citrus flavors really shone. I could taste this wine’s subtle complexity.

Pecorino Toscano is a sheep’s milk cheese that has been made in Tuscany and neighboring Umbria for thousands of years. Soft Pecorino Toscano is white with a tinge of yellow, while semi-hard Pecorino Toscano is pale yellow. It is moderately strong smelling and has a complex nutty flavor. I thought that it blended very nicely into the wine.

Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten books on computers and the Internet, but to be honest, he would rather just drink fine Italian or other wine, accompanied by the right foods. He teaches classes in computers at an Ontario French-language community college. His wine website is www.theworldwidewine.com http://www.theworldwidewine.com . The credit rating of a borrower is a deciding factor for the approval of a loan. Adverse credit can lead to a bad impact on the lender such that he may reject the loan. In such situations, the best option is to go for adverse credit secured loans.

Adverse credit may be a result of missed repayments, CCJs, defaults, arrears, or a bad credit score. A detailed credit report can be obtained by a borrower free of cost by agencies like Fair Isaac Credit Organisation. In the FICO credit scale, a score of less than 600 is considered to be bad. Borrowers having a credit score less than 580 are considered to be more of a risk to lend money. But this is not a problem with adverse credit secured loans.

Adverse credit secured loans can be used for any purpose of the borrower like home improvement, debt consolidation, car purchase, college education funding etc.

To borrow adverse credit secured loans, an asset has to be placed as collateral. This asset can be a home, a car, stocks, bonds etc. The purpose of the asset is to assure the lender of bad credit secured loan about the repayment of his money. High equity collateral helps in getting a low rate of interest for adverse credit secured loans. Also, high equity collateral helps in getting a higher amount approved for the loan.

Adverse credit secured loans help the borrower in taking up an amount in the range of ?5000-?75000. The repayment term of the loan is from 5 years to 25 years. The amount approved for the adverse credit secured loans depends upon the equity in the collateral.

An online search can do wonders in getting a good deal for adverse credit secured loans. Proper research and comparison can help the borrower in getting low rates of interest for the deal.

Adverse credit secured loans provide another chance to adverse credit borrowers so that they can manage their finances better. Money is provided to them in times of need which makes adverse credit secured loans a suitable choice to make.

Q: What are you working on now?

At the moment I am marketing my Hanukkah book for the 2nd year and trying to get my anti-bullying book into schools, foundations etc.

After the first of the year, I am planning to start work on my third book Hockey Day’s which I hope to have out in October, 2007.

Q: Tell us about your two books?

My first book was published in October, 2005. It is called Hanukkah Counts Too! and the premise is that there are a brother (Tom) and a sister (Tupelo) who are each eight years old and they live in a predominately non-Jewish area and they are bombarded by Christmas images, shows, movies etc. And Tupelo, questions why they have to be different and why Santa can’t bring her a tree or presents. She runs upstairs on the first night of Hanukkah but has a heart-to-heart talk with her older cousin and after the talk she comes to realize that Hanukkah is an important holiday and that it matters (and counts) too.

My new book which was released on September 12th, is called Destructo Boy & Spillerella…We Are Who We Are! and it is an anti-bullying story. It again involves Tom and Tupelo, who are being bullied by a big fourth grader. First the bully starts picking on Tom and then Tupelo and Tom has a chat with his Dad who reminds him that he has strength and courage that he doesn’t even know he has. When the bully starts picking on Tupelo, and Tom sees the hurt in her eyes and face, he puts his foot down and tells the bully that his words and actions don’t matter and will not hurt he or Tupelo any more.

Q: Top five tips for raising kids:

1. Parents have to work as a team: I believe that this is the absolute number one tip for raising kids. The Parents must be in sync with each other and cover each other on household tasks. Especially when the child or children are one to three years old. The household tasks like doing the laundry, the dishes, emptying the trash, balancing the checkbook and paying the bills can be overwhelming so those tasks must be divided up and the parents have to WORK at being good teammates.

2. Make time for yourself. Whether it’s going to a movie by yourself or just walking around the mall or going to a athletic event, couples need to do some stuff to get them out of the house for a short amount of time.

3. Schedule at least one date night a month. While it helps to recharge one’s batteries doing something solo, couple’s should make time once a month to get out and see a movie or have dinner or simply get out of the house and be together at least once a month.

4. Be cost and money concious. Everyone wants to make their kids happy but the $50 or $75 that is spent on a holiday gift or outfit that will be thrown in the closet never to see the light of day could be better used by being put in the bank or towards a college education fund. When I say money concious I mean that the husband and wife should put off luxury purchases and similar purchases like new furniture, drapes a better car etc. in lieu of saving money for the childs education.

5. Keep things even between the husband and wife’s families. What I mean is that if you have to make two Thanksgiving stops, do it. If the wife’s mother is watching the kids one night, ask the husband’s mother to watch them the next time. Keeping both families on an even keel will do wonders for the husband and wife in their relationship and won’t cause any friction with their families. If one side is being too agressive or bossy, it is the husband or wife’s obligation to tell them to back off, it’s for the greater good of THEIR marriage/relationship and in the children’s interst to keep things as even as possible between the families.

Q: Where can we find out about your books and website?

I have a website, www.howardshapiro.net http://www.howardshapiro.net and my books are both available on Amazon.com. Also, copies can be ordered directly from me and I will autograph each copy. Both books cost $8.95. For more information, please send an email to howard.shapiro@hotmail.com howard.shapiro@hotmail.com or go to www.howardshapiro.net http://www.howardshapiro.net

Q: Something people must know about you.

Just that I work really hard at the whole business or writing and marketing my books and that I love feedback from people who have read them. As Louis Ferdinand Celine said when you write, you should put your skin on the table and I truly believe this and want my books to make a difference to someone or help them in some way, even if it’s just for a moment. That, and I also believe that we are all capable of greatness in all that we do and we should strive for that.

In Africa it seems to be all misery and nothing but problems, in the past few months we have had the attempted assassination of the Somali President, the invasion of Northern Somali towns by Ethiopian troops, continuing ethnic problems is Darfur (Sudan) and more than 20 people have been killed in political clashes in the DR Congo capital, Kinshasa, in the latest round of elections.

To top this off, Madonna has been to Africa to adopt a child called David, throwing Malawi into the worlds media. A group of Malawian charities sought a court injunction to try and block the pop star Madonnas bid to adopt a baby boy. A group of Malawian charities said that pop star Madonnas bid to adopt a boy was illegal and sought a court injunction halting the adoption.

The charity obviously didnt have the power (money, fame?) that Madonna has and the adopted baby arrived in UK recently to start his new and privileged life. They have secured a temporary 18-month custody order from the Malawi courts and hope to adopt him formally. How is adopting individual children from overseas going to help with the bigger problem of rampant child poverty in Malawi? Does it matter? Is this not a case of child trafficking?

Westminster Council, which covers the area where Madonna lives in the UK has stated that they regularly received applications from residents wishing to adopt from overseas. I dont understand - Why is this the case when there are hundreds of child in the UK that need adopting and a home just as much as baby David. Would baby David not be better off in his own extended family and community? Louise Richards, from War on Want, added: “Madonna’s step to adopt the baby is a well-meaning, but misguided act.” In the capital Lilongwe, it was claimed that the courts had improperly waived Malawian laws to allow Madonna and Ritchie custody because of their celebrity status. Two months ago the pop superstar announced she was to donate three million dollars (?1.6m) to the country through the Raising Malawi charity. May that have had something to do with it I ask?

What ever next from this great continent?

Well…. In Rwanda they are starting to use the countrys first litter bins in the capital Kigali. They have appeared in the centre of the city.

Ivory Coast did exceptionally well in the 2006 Soccer World Cup and there is an increasing number of African players in the UK Premier League and throughout Europe.

Increasing oil prices are leading to a boom in certain countries such as Nigeria which is using some of the funds for education and other social programmes (I wont mention recent reports that Nigerian leaders stole 380 billion dollars of oil money in the past 40 years).

Many more African countries are now opening up to attract tourists as the weather is nearly always good and the Safaris and White Water Rafting has to be experienced to believed!

Bono and Live Aid highlighted the problems and the beauty of Africa, while showcasing African talent at a concert in the UK which was echoed around the World.

African debt is decreasing in those countries that has good governments

Once you add African music, dance, food, crafts and culture you have one amazing continent!!!

Have you ever wondered what would happen if there was no steakhouses? Well, this is something that is simply unacceptable, especially more for steak lovers. This is something that they can never ever imagine. Steak lovers are huge in number and this is the reason why steakhouses try to be the best steakhouse in USA. To become the best steakhouse is not an easy task for any steakhouse. They will have to fulfill several parameters to be able to actually vie for being the best.

One thing you must realize is that a steakhouse is not all about serving people with a piece of meat and potatoes. There are many more things to a steakhouse then just beef and potatoes. The ambience, d?cor and the interiors are one of the first things that attract customers. To become the best steakhouse in USA, steakhouse owners will have to take special care of their steakhouses. This will help them to attract the maximum number of customers and become immensely popular among steak lovers.

Word of the mouth is a very good way of getting new clients to come to your place. So first of all you will have to satisfy all the wants of your existing clients if you want them to spread good words about your steakhouse. Mostly you will find that steak lovers take the opinion of fellow people who love to eat out in a steakhouse. Make sure that your interiors of the steakhouse are attractive enough to attract the best steak lovers in your city. Only the best can attract the best, so you must take all efforts to make your steakhouse the best.

All Steakhouses that aim to cater to the taste buds of steak lovers must make sure that they have different varieties of steak to serve to customers. Steak lovers like to have their steaks cooked at varied temperatures. The taste of steak differs greatly depending on the degree on which steak is cooked. Some of the varieties of cooked that are very popular among steak lovers are rare steak, medium rare steak and medium steak.

Steakhouses also serve a wide variety of soups to customers. French onion soup is one hot favorite among customers who frequent a steakhouse. One can also find lots of surf and turf dishes to satisfy their tastes in a steakhouse. A surf and turf dish actually satisfies two tastes at a time. One can enjoy eating a good piece of steak that is cooked rare or medium as per their liking and also enjoy eating seafood. Different types of sea food like lobster and crispy side dishes like potatoes, cheese and macaroni can be found in a steakhouse.

So if you plan to eat out in a steakhouse with your family and friends, make sure that you do the bookings well in advance. Last minute bookings can often mean that you will not be able to find bookings and may not be able to enjoy your eating out session. A weekend crowd mostly means that finding a proper place will be difficult if you do not make arrangements for this well in advance.

During the past few years you have probably heard terms like “Movies on Demand” or “Video on Demand”. The number of movie titles are still very limited and all the hype surrounding “Video on Demand” has turned out to be a real disappointment. Cable companies just don’t have much to offer when it comes to offering a wide selection of “Video on Demand”. Apple is about to enter this market full steam in a unique way. Microsoft still has a learning curve when it comes to audio and video delivery and is just entering the market where Apple was 5 years ago. It has recently introduced Zune, an iPod competitor.

The Online Video Content Market

The internet, on the other hand, has made great strides in the “Video on Demand” market in just the past 3 years. The number of websites showing video clips that include news, corporate interviews, movie trailers, old and new TV shows, product advertisements and short films has grown exponentially. The content does vary widely and currently is spread across a large number of niche markets. These niche markets are served by a large number of individual websites. The number of people who visit these websites is huge.

An Opportunity Exists - Bridging the Gap

There exists a tremendous opportunity for bridging the gap between online video content and the TV screen. If you can find old episodes of your favorite TV show or an old sporting event, you are likely going to want to watch it on a large TV screen. The question is how to bridge the PC to TV gap.

Current Bridging the Gap Solutions

This PC to TV convergence has been slowly evolving over the past few years. A quick trip to Best Buy and a conversation with one of their helpful employees reveals there are a few ways to “bridge the gap”. For instance, you can purchase the necessary cable to connect your computer’s VGA output to your TV’s VGA input. There are plenty of websites with directions for the steps you need to follow. Another option is using a PC to TV converter. There are several on the market such as the Manhattan PC to TV Converter, while there are also wireless converters and converters for HDTV.

Get Ready for the Apple Solution

On September 12, 2006 Apple issued a press release and announced its much anticipated new product launch which it referred to as “iTV”. According to Apple’s website, however, iTV is the project’s internal code name and will not be the final product name. “Here we go again! First music, then TV shows, and now movies,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “In less than one year we’ve grown from offering just five TV shows to offering over 220 TV shows, and we hope to do the same with movies. iTunes is selling over one million videos a week, and we hope to match this with movies in less than a year.”

The iTV is a network media box that streams of your iTunes-based media–including music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and photos directly from your PC or Mac to your TV, HDTV or home entertainment system. This will allow people to enjoy the video content they select on their TV screen while relaxing on their couch or easy-boy-chair, rather than sitting at their desk staring at their small computer screen.

Conclusion

If Apple can successfully distribute its iTV product to the masses and if that product proves to be an easy-to-use way to link the PC to the TV, they will be setting a standard just like they did with their and iPod. As Apple’s track record has proven, first one to the market with a great concept and easy-to-use hardware/software proves to be highly successful.
