There is a saying that goes. We are what we eat. This is so true as the food being consumed may affect the cholesterol levels inside the person’s system. This makes this makes the person prone to high blood pressure or heart disease through age, which could leave the patient, paralyzed or dead.

The only thing to do before it is too late is to make some changes in the individual’s diet. While many of the good stuff that people love to eat have high concentrations of LDL better known as bad cholesterol, this can all change by consuming those that have HDL or good cholesterol. Here are a few examples.

A good way to start a healthy diet is to have a breakfast. Instead of eating bread, the individual can consume oatmeal instead. Studies have shown this can lower the cholesterol in the body by more than 20. This can be purchased at the supermarket and eaten during anytime of the day such as dessert after a light meal or as a snack.

During lunch or dinner, the person must have some vegetables in the meal. Those who order can have fish or poultry instead of eating red meat. Such dishes are not high in saturated fats, which are healthier.

Those who love to cook at home can try mixing some healthy things ingredients in the meal. One example is garlic that has natural properties that can declog the arteries and again lower the odds of succumbing to heart disease.

Having a can of pork and beans is also good for the diet. This is because it contains soluble fibers that can combat the bad cholesterol in the person’s body. There are not that many people who will do this but those who are able to eat even a half an onion daily will be able to increase the HDL and lower the LDL.

People are often told that fats are not good for the diet. This isn’t entirely true because this comes in many forms. There are fats that are healthy such as unsaturated ones and omega 3 fatty acids.

Monosaturated and Polysaturated ones are also effective since these are usually found in cooking oils. This means food preparation also plays a big factor in reducing lowering one’s cholesterol levels.

The individual should read the label at the supermarket and read the ingredients to find out if this is healthy for cooking.

Being a bit overweight or noticing a lot of bulges in the body is one way of knowing that the person is potentially at risk for succumbing to disease to high levels of cholesterol in the system.

If the individual is unable to make a proper dietary plan, a specialist can help make one so all the person has to do is follow it.

NJFRB Website: Free Foreclosure Help New Jersey

In February 2006, Jennifer and Roger Roberson found themselves unable to make their mortgage payments after Roger, a 37 year old father of two, lost his job as a technician for a major high-tech firm in New Jersey.

They received notice from their lender that the foreclosure process was being initiated on their home. Desperate for help, they conducted a brief internet search on how to stop foreclosure. After spotting an advertisement, they hired a “foreclosure specialist” to renegotiate a new payment plan with their lender. Assured that their case would be handled, they quickly handed over all the documents that were requested of them, and took a small sigh of relief.

“He told me everything would be just fine, that I would have no problems getting a new payment plan, especially since we knew Roger was already hired for another position,” said Jennifer.

A few months later, they received notice that their house had been sold at a sheriff’s sale.

The Promise of Peace of Mind

Unfortunately these unsavory bottom feeding real estate operations can be quickly established, and just as quickly disappear. Many of these businesses will use tactics such as:

Promise “no risk” solutions - more of a salesman than a specialist, these people will sell you more on stress relief than an actual solution. Real specialists will walk your through your situation step-by-step, and provide you with what options really do exist, including accepting foreclosure.

Bait and switch - they will advertise a low-cost fee then inflate the fees, or they may charge a flat-fee, only to proceed with foreclosure with or without the customer’s knowledge.

Charge you to buy your home - a “foreclosure specialist” in Virginia charged a homeowner $3,500 to purchase their house and rent it back to them.

“Flip” your home - a Colorado attorney was recently cited for reselling his clients foreclosed properties, making as much as $50,000 a transaction.

“It’s really a shame,” says J.M., a foreclosure attorney in New Jersey (who wished to remain anonymous). “These people are facing the worst of times, and these predators are sharks looking for nothing more than a quick buck at the expense of their fellow man.”

The “Do it Yourself” Solution

Yes, you can speak to your lender directly to renegotiate a plan. In fact, it’s advised that you keep an open line of communication with them if you do receive a notice of foreclosure. Compiling your personal finances, providing proof of hardship, and stating your intentions on how you will get your finances in order are all important steps.

But “the problem isn’t you,” says J.M., “the problem is who you get on the other end of the phone. Most people who are picking up at the lending company aren’t trained or given the incentive to take you by the hand.”

Finding the person who can say “yes” to you can be extremely difficult. This is where hiring a specialist makes sense.

How to Find a Real Specialist

The answer is not so simple. But like anything else, if it’s too good to be true, chances are it probably is. Things to look for in a specialist are:

References - ask them how many foreclosures they have negotiated, and if they have any references to validate this.

Trade associations - there are legal and lending organizations that provide approved foreclosure specialists

Word of mouth - ask around, nothing beats a trusted reference from a close friend or family.

Take Action & Be Aware

The most important thing for you to do is be aware of your options, and know what to expect from a foreclosure specialist. Grand promises, abnormally low prices, and lack of references are all red flags when searching for an advisor.

While storing data in your MP3 player, you seldom stop to find how files are saved in the player’s memory. The different types of memory types include internal flash memory, Compact Flash cards, Smart Media cards, Memory Stick and internal micro drive.

Except for internal micro drive, all of the above mentioned are ’solid-state’ memory types in which there are no moving parts. This enables better reliability and no skips while you are enjoying the music. There are tiny hard disk drives in MP3 players which have capacity to store 10 to 150 times more date compared to flash memory devices.

In any MP3 player, the microprocessor is the brains of the system, monitoring user input through playback controls, displaying all the statistics related to the song playing on the LCD panel and sending instructions to the DSP chip that tells exactly how to process the audio.

The DSP withdraws the data of songs from memory, through application of special effects, or EQ, and streams it to the amplifier. A decompression algorithm run by the DSP will undo the compression of the MP3 file and then a digital-to-analog converter will change the bytes back into sound waves.

After boosting the strength, the amplifier sends the signal to the audio port, which is connected to a pair of headphones.

MP3 players are portable and battery-powered. Most of them use one or two AA batteries that last for about 10 to 12 hours on a single charge. Many players are equipped with AC adapters and can be plugged into a normal electrical outlet and some even offer DC adapters for use in a car.

Minidisk technology comes to music listeners in a new and improved line of Minidisk Walkman digital music players. A 1 GB disc is provided by Hi-MD technology to give users up to 45 hours of music. Those looking for a player that can store their entire music collection would find the hard drive ideally suited for the purpose. These discs can also store and transfer many PC data files to enable PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, etc. and depending on the model, it could allow 30 to 50 hours of playtime on a single AA battery.

As the holidays approach, I’m sure you are quickly preparing to choose your Christmas tree for the season. Choosing a Christmas tree today isn’t’ nearly as easy as it was when we were children. There is a seemingly endless selection of available trees that make the decision of which tree alone difficult enough. Today, there are companies that exist solely for the purpose of growing Christmas trees. These companies have discovered that there is such a large market for Christmas threes and other Christmas items that they can sustain their families year round on the earnings of the Christmas season. This of course allows them the time to care for and grow more trees for the next Christmas season.

Some opt to purchase an artificial tree that can be used year after year. There are some benefits in doing this. The first one being that there are no worries over disposal. Second (well first for me) is the fact that you will not find a mountain of needles stuck in your carpet next August. Third is the fact that the same tree can be purchased once and used year after year. When you look at them this way, artificial trees are very cost effective.

The thing to remember when selecting your tree is that you need to find the three that is right for you and your family rather than buying a tree to compete with the neighbors, cousins, brothers, or monkey’s uncles. It is your home the tree needs to compliment and your family it needs to inspire. Here are some tips for finding the perfect Christmas tree.

1) How much room is there in your home for a tree? Is your space over cluttered with furniture? Do you have low ceilings? High ceilings? How much floor space can you really spare?

2) What is your budget? This is the deciding factor for many families. Not only do you need a tree but also the decorations to go on it.

3) How important is the tree really? Not all families place as much emphasis on the Christmas tree as others if you have small children it’s almost a must, however if your children or grown and gone or you do not yet have children, you could easily opt out of a Christmas tree or decide to go with a very small Christmas tree.

Deciding these things can go a long way towards helping you decide your specific needs for your Christmas tree. Whether you tend to go light on tree, heavy on presents, or go all out for both, or decorate massively while limiting your giving. Whichever choice works best for you and your family is the choice you should make concerning your Christmas tree purchase. The important thing to remember is that no Christmas tree is complete without decorations. So be sure you leave a little room in the budget for ornaments and lights as well.

It’s sometimes confusing for parents to know what’s the best choice for children’s music. As both a music educator and parent, I found myself browsing through record stores eagerly looking for something both my husband and I, and my children could enjoy. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it. Most of the chidlren’s music was corporate ie. attached to a tv show. It seemed to be all copies of the same thing. Lots of vocalists singing nursery rhymes, mostly in G or C Major with little variety. Hardly any instrumentation.

Children are magnificent. Any parent knows this. Children’s music should play to this magnificence, not down to the common denominator.

I started KINDERJAZZ The Big Swing Band For Little Kids for this reason. You can check it out against the list below on www.kinderjazz.com http://www.kinderjazz.com . I wanted children to be exposed to the cream, not the residue. Childhood is when a human’s hearing is most acute. It is when we learn our language and this informs much future success in our lives. The best children’s music has the following ingredients:-

a) melody
b) rhythm
c) interesting key signatures
d) variety of styles
e) clarity
f) be performed by professionals
g) harmony - simple or complex
h) safe, intelligent and fun lyrics
i) educational

Don’t just walk into a store and buy what you’ve seen on tv. Music is powerful. Ask any advertising agency. Children’s music needs to be the highest quality. What your children listen to will form a memory bank in their brains for the rest of their lives. PLATO said, To become the right kind of person, you must listen to the right kind of music.

Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and eventual winner of 3 Oscars, On Golden Pond is an unconventional Hollywood blockbuster. Based on the play of the same name by Ernest Thompson, the film offers a character driven storyline that explores numerous themes such as aging, abandonment, and family relationships of various types. Veteran film and TV director Mark Rydell packs the big screen with a star-studded cast for this 1981 release. Because of its well developed characters and realistic portrayal of human interactions, it’s a film that’s almost certain to make you laugh, cry, and/or smile. In fact, if you don’t find Norman to be one of the most hilarious and eccentric characters ever created, then you must not be watching the same film.

On Golden Pond follows the lives of a retired New England couple on their annual summer vacation to Golden Pond. Norman Thayer (Henry Fonda) is an aging, long-retired college professor. Sarcastic and crotchety, he manages to distance himself from just about everyone but his wife Ethel (Katharine Hepburn). In fact, his biting demeanor nearly destroys he and his daughter’s relationship, Chelsea (Jane Fonda). When Chelsea brings her new boyfriend Bill (Dabney Coleman) to visit, it isn’t long before Norman stirs things up once again. But Norman and Ethel get an unexpected summer guest when Bill and Chelsea take a prolonged European vacation and leave Bill’s 13-year-old son Billy in their care. It makes for an odd threesome, but as the three learn to live with each other’s quirks, they also learn from each other. But the true test for the new family comes when Chelsea and Bill return from Europe. Can she learn to accept her father’s vices? And can Norman finally be proud of his daughter for who she is?

Hollywood veterans Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda turn in two of the best performances of their respective careers. Fonda is absolutely brilliant as the doddering and cranky Norman. One can’t help but laugh at his antics, although it helps that he has the best written lines in the entire movie. Dabney Coleman, although brief in his appearance, makes an immediate impression when he engages in a classic dialogue with Henry Fonda over the evening’s sleeping arrangements. However, in the end, On Golden Pond works because of the chemistry between the three characters who encompass the majority of the story - Ethel, Norman, and Billy. They bind together to create an epic drama rife with conflict, conquest, and chaos without all the usual Hollywood blood and gore. It’s truly rare to have a film of this nature capture audiences without boring them, and On Golden Pond pulls it off.

Complimenting this strong cast and screenplay is a simple, yet memorable instrumental soundtrack composed by Dave Grusin, veteran TV and film composer known for such works as Tootsie (1982) and The Goonies (1985). Filmed on location on and around the Squam Lakes in New Hampshire, the beauty and majesty of this untainted landscape blends perfectly with its tailor-made soundtrack to create a theme of endless peace and tranquility. Overall, it makes for a rather enjoyable movie experience. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch On Golden Pond. Then, see if you can say “Ethel Thayer” really fast without a lisp!

While considering your loan application a lender will look for your business prospects. You may need to convince the lender that your business will succeed enough to repay the loan on time (when collateral is not there). Along with such information, simply fill in the loan application form with your personal details and requirement and details about your business. The lender will review your application after which he will contact you for further assistance regarding small business loans.

We all know that when it comes to nutrition, all foods are not made the same. Whole wheat flour is better than white flour, almonds are more nutritionally sound than peanuts, and grilling is a much healthier alternative form of cooking than frying.

When it comes to what we put in our bodies, we ought to be aiming for what the Man of Steel eats on a regular basis-super foods.

Super foods are not new to the marketplace. In fact, you may have lots of super foods in your pantry or refrigerator at this moment. What is new, however, is the realization of just how “super” these foods really are for our health and well-being through independent studies by health experts.

Super foods by definition are foods that are nutritionally dense, high in fiber and are believed to fight disease and increase longevity. And not surprisingly, most super foods are the ones you’ll find in nature that don’t require any kind of processing or refining. Take berries, for example. Every berry is considered “super” but a study done on blueberries and strawberries properties elicited some exciting results for berry lovers.

The study, published in the journal of Neurobiology and Aging, used 60 different rats and divided the rats into three groups. One group was fed strawberry extract, and the other was fed blueberry extract. The third was the control group and was not fed any berry extract. The rats were then released to run through a water maze, but not before they were exposed to a radioactive iron source which was meant to simulate age-related cognitive decline. After the run through was completed, results revealed that the control group showed significant impairment in learning ability, while the groups of rats that ate berry extract showed a resistance to cognitive decline.

While scientists who performed the study say more testing needs to be done, this study suggests that consuming berries protects the brain from radiation damage and decline in learning ability.

It’s believed that the chemical responsible for blueberries’ superpower is anthocyanin-what gives blueberries their color and may also play a role in their antioxidant activity. Blueberries, according to the USDA Human Research Center, are ranked #1 in antioxidant activity when compared to 40 other fruits and vegetables (Antioxidants help rid the body of cancer-causing free radicals).

Berries aren’t the only super foods with super properties. Just as Superman’s powers aren’t relegated solely to super speed or super strength, each super food brings with it its own special power:

Avocados-Avocados do have a considerable amount of fat in them, but the right kind of fat. Like olive oil, avocados have healthy amounts of monounsaturated fat which help lower “bad” cholesterol levels (LDL) while raising the “good” ones (HDL). Avocados are also great to combine with other foods as its properties help the body absorb nutrients from other nutrient-dense foods (like lycopene found in tomatoes, for example).

Beans- The old school days song of beans being good for your heart is true, thanks to the high amounts of betaine found in them. In addition, beans also have high amounts of lutein, which won’t bring x-ray vision, but will help in protecting your eyes from sunlight.

Dark Chocolate-Believe it or not, chocolate, the dark variety, can help lower blood pressure and improve blood flow. The special power dark chocolate has lies in its flavonoids, a type of anti-oxidant. Even though flavonoids are found in apples, tea, onions and peanuts, research indicates that dark chocolate has the highest level of flavonoids. That doesn’t mean you should go out and eat it to your heart’s delight, but you no longer need to attach “guilty” with the “pleasure” you’ll get out of eating moderate portions of dark chocolate each week.

Oats-Eating raw oats isn’t exactly an appetizing meal, but they’re quite appetizing in oatmeal. Oats are a great source of vitamins and minerals, have a low glycemic index level, are high in fiber, low in sugar and have been proven to reduce blood cholesterol levels.

This is just a partial list of the super foods that can bring you a life of abundant health. Remember: Eating exorbitant amounts of almonds or blueberries does not equal more health. As with all things, moderation is key.
