A peer-to-peer (or P2P) computer network is a network that relies primarily on the computing power and bandwidth of the participants in the network rather than concentrating it in a relatively low number of servers. P2P networks are typically used for connecting nodes via largely ad hoc connections. Such networks are useful for many purposes. Sharing content files (see file sharing) containing audio, video, data or anything in digital format is very common, and realtime data, such as telephony traffic, is also passed using P2P technology.

A pure peer-to-peer network does not have the notion of clients or servers, but only equal peer nodes that simultaneously function as both clients and servers to the other nodes on the network. This model of network arrangement differs from the client-server model where communication is usually to and from a central server. A typical example for a non peer-to-peer file transfer is an FTP server where the client and server programs are quite distinct, and the clients initiate the download/uploads and the servers react to and satisfy these requests.

The earliest peer-to-peer network in widespread use were the Usenet news servers, which communicated with one another as peers, propagating Usenet news articles over the entire Usenet network, which particularly in the earlier days of Usenet also used UUCP to extend even beyond the Internet. However, these news servers also acted as client-server when the individual users accessed the local news server to read and post articles.

Some networks and channels, such as Napster, OpenNAP, or IRC @find IRC @find , use a client-server structure for some tasks (e.g., searching) and a peer-to-peer structure for others. Networks such as Gnutella or Freenet use a peer-to-peer structure for all purposes, and are sometimes referred to as true peer-to-peer networks, although Gnutella is greatly facilitated by directory servers that inform peers of the network addresses of other peers.

Peer-to-peer architecture embodies one of the key technical concepts of the internet, described in the first internet Request for Comments, RFC 1, Host Software [1] dated 7 April 1969. More recently, the concept has achieved recognition in the general public in the context of the absence of central indexing servers in architectures used for exchanging multimedia files.

The concept of peer to peer is increasingly evolving to an expanded usage as the relational dynamic active in distributed networks, i.e. not just computer to computer, but human to human. Yochai Benkler has developed the notion of commons-based peer production to denote collaborative projects such as free software. Associated with peer production are the concept of peer governance (referring to the manner in which peer production projects are managed) and peer property (referring to the new type of licenses which recognize individual authorship but not exclusive property rights, such as the GNU General Public License and the Creative Commons License).

When you realize that you have a debt issue going on, you have several options to choose from: do nothing, create a budget, seek credit counseling, get professional debt consolidation help, opt for debt negotiation & settlement help from a specialized company or file for bankruptcy; this last option should always be considered as the last alternative in mind because of the consequences brought upon as result of it.

However, if you are looking to release yourself from debt, you should define your plan towards the following goals: lowering the amount of your debt, getting on a fixed payment plan that is comfortable for you and making sure your credit rating improves as result of this process.

First, you should know the differences between:

- Debt consolidation &
- Debt negotiation and debt settlement

Debt Consolidation and Debt settlement has its advantages and its disadvantages. Nevertheless, they both have one main objective in common, to free the consumer from debt.
Remember, it is very important to completely understand how every step of the process works in order to know which to apply to.

In debt settlement, negotiations take place with the creditors. A debt settlement companys main goal is to convince the creditors to give up a share of the money owed by the consumer.

Here is an example to further clarify this process: lets suppose that a friend of mine, James, borrowed $1600 from me. After a while, when I told him to pay me my money back, he said, “Nancy, I only have $700, would you settle for those $700 upfront and forget about the remaining $900. Occasionally, creditors take these type of offers into consideration because sometimes it is more expensive and time consuming to recover the rest of the money. So, its worth it to stick to what the consumer offers in order to settle the account.

Although at first, this seems like the best of all opportunities, it also has negative consequences:

- It will appear on your credit report for as long as 7 years, as a negotiated and settled debt, so any future creditor will check for this info, and that, could avoid you from getting any future credit or loans
- All future creditors will understand this as a warning that you did not fully pay your past debt.

So the question is, “When should you choose debt consolidation or debt settlement?”

- People that have pending balances with several creditors should choose debt consolidation
- However, if you are in a great amount of debt, do not see any possibility of repaying those accounts off, and taking bankruptcy into consideration, then you should opt for debt settlement.

The goal of achieving optimal fatty acid nutrition must be approached by altering the fatty acid composition of the day-to-day meal pattern. If the diet is high in saturated fats, more of the positions on the glycerol backbones will be taken up by saturated fats. If the diet is high in omega-6 fats or hydrogenated fats, more of the positions will be taken up by those fatty acids. If one can begin to increase the consumption of known health-enhancing fats, then the triglyceride and phospholipid pool will convert. This will in turn exert beneficial effects on membrane physiology and provide precursors for eicosanoids that exert health-enhancing rather than health-robbing effects.

OMEGA- 6 RECOMMENDATIONS

Various recommendations by research organizations have indicated certain minimum dietary levels for essential fatty acids. For example, for humans, the World Health Organization suggests that 3% of calories should consist of essential fatty acids for an adult and 5% for children. The essential fatty acids they specify are linoleic and linolenic acids. Specific recommendations made by United States governmental agencies suggest that linoleic acid should comprise approximately 12% of calories. Some argue this should be increased to as much as 10% for optimal or therapeutic effects.

But this minimum recommendation for linoleic acid is not only met by modem food sources, it is usually exceeded to the extreme. For example, the average American would need only to consume about 45 milligrams of linoleic acid per kilogram of body weight per day, but they are consuming over 300. The same disparity exists for animals on modern processed foods.

High dietary omega six fatty acids are common but essential fatty acid deficiencies are paradoxically also common. This is due to a variety of factors. The increasing use of warm weather seeds, which now predominate in modern agriculture, provides the excess supply. The fat tooth” that modern cultures have is satisfied by large portions of omega-6 oils in processed foods. The discovery of cholesterol in atherosclerotic plaques, leading to the conclusion that cholesterol should be excluded from the diet, also led to increased consumption of vegetable (omega-6) fats.

Although exceeding the minimums quantitatively is apparently easy, the quality of fatty acids is threatened by the very nature of processing itself, which can readily degrade essential fatty acids into nonutilizable or even toxic forms. The primary goal should therefore be to decrease omega-6 fatty acids in quantity and increase their quality while at the same time increasing the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio in the diet.

OMEGA-3 RECOMMENDATIONS

Sources of omega-3 oils include fish, wild meat and animal products from animals on high omega-3 diets, as well as certain seeds such as flaxseed, chia, rape, cold-weather nuts and soybeans. Other sources include mosses, ferns, alfalfa, the bark of certain trees, and phytoplankton which have the metabolic machinery (desaturase and elongase enzymes) within chloroplasts to convert omega-6’s to omega-3’s. But normally these sources are not consumed to any degree by non-wild higher mammals. Wild animals have not only less fat, but a higher omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio in tissues.1 (Fig. 30)

The recommendation for linolenic acid (plant source omega-3) to prevent deficiency is .54% of calories.2 Others suggest a level ranging from 0.8% to 1.2%.3 More important than absolute amounts of linolenic acid would be the ratio corresponding to linoleic acid and perhaps other fatty acids. Clinical effectiveness, as can be predicted from a synergonic view, has been related to balance rather than dose.4,5 The ideal ratio can be deduced from the respective levels of these oils in many common natural foods and also the ratio which exists in mother’s milk. This ratio seems to be approximately 5: 1, with linoleic acid comprising the greater proportion. (Fig. 33)

Unfortunately some American mothers have ratios exceeding 30: 1.6,7 A minimum of 11/2 grams per day of linolenic acid for humans has been suggested for maintenance and over 100 grams per day have been utilized in therapy.8

Omega-3 fish oils consumed specifically to treat or prevent cardiovascular disease should make up 2% of daily calorie consumption according to some researchers. This would amount to approximately five grams per day. As much as 10-20 grams or even more per day has also been suggested.9 Some, however, report that relatively small doses can create a beneficial effect.10 Others report an unfavorable shift in LDL-C and LDL-apoprotein B concentrations in low doses compared to the higher ones.11 Such confusion and contradiction abounds when attempting to design diet based on doses of isolated nutrients… benefits are possible but so are dangers.

OMEGA-3 DANGERS

There are a variety of dangers associated with the consumption of high levels of fish oils. Increased bleeding time may create risks for cerebral vascular accident and epistaxis (nose bleed).12,13 Fish oils have recently been shown to increase LDL levels and thus potentially predispose to cardiovascular disease rather than prevent it.14 Depletion of body reserves of vitamin E used to stabilize these highly reactive oil molecules (potential steatitis, yellow fat disease, may result but is prevented with vitamin E supplementation — the dose required being up to six times normal levels), free radical and peroxide generation from the spontaneous degradation of these oils, and over-consumption of heavy metals (mercury etc.) and chlorinated hydrocarbons or toxins which may concentrate in fish oils.15,16Since fish are higher on the food chain than plant sources of omega-3, the risk of toxin concentration is of course greater. Although linolenic acid is believed to be approximately 1/5 as effective in some therapies as EPA derived directly from fish oil (since it must go through enzymatic steps to convert to EPA), many would argue that this is the preferred source of omega-3 fatty acids since this dietary source could simply permit the body to regulate its own requirement for EPA. 17,18

OMEGA-9 RECOMMENDATIONS

Omega-9 oils derived from olive and other sources are not considered an essential dietary fatty acid. However, an impressive body of evidence indicates their health and nutritional benefits. Doses of as high as 10% of dietary fats, or 1 ounce of olive oil per day is one recommendation based upon research on the effect of omega-9 fatty acids on various health parameters.19-21

PHOSPHOLIPID RECOMMENDATIONS

Phospholipids are a predominant part of all cellular and organelle membranes and thus are an extremely important biochemical component. They are particularly rich in brain tissue, sphingosines, and in sphingomyelin. The choline fraction of phosphotidl choline is a component of the neuronal transmitter acetylcholine. There is no dietary requirement for phospholipids since the body is capable of manufacturing them. However, there is a considerable body of medical literature indicating the beneficial effects of supplementing lecithin, phosphotidl choline, to the diet. A dosage of choline ranging from three to twelve grams per day has been used for such conditions as tardive dyskinesia, pre-senile dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, manic depression, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and a wide range of other neurological and locomotor as well as autonomic dysfunctions in humans and animals. 22-28

SATURATED FAT RECOMMENDATIONS

There is no recognized dietary requirement for saturated fat. However, it is and always has been a part of dietary makeup. Although saturated fats have received considerable bad press, recent studies have shown stearic acid (18:0) to actually decrease blood cholesterol levels.29,30 (A method of determining the level of saturation of fats is to place oil in the refrigerator. Saturated fats will become hard, a mixture of saturates and unsaturates will become cloudy, whereas a pure unsaturate will remain liquid.)

Saturated fat intake, as with cholesterol intake, may be more of a concern because of its relationship to particular dietary patterns. The modern, highly processed, high fat diets invariably have high saturated fats and high cholesterol levels and are positively associated with various degenerative diseases. Evidence supports the relationship between low saturated fats in the diet and decreased serum cholesterol levels. Additionally, the ratio of saturated fats to unsaturated fats is an important criterion for measuring risks. Maintaining an unsaturated fat to saturated fat ratio of 3 to 1 or greater and keeping total fats to less than 30% of dietary calories are widely accepted as guidelines for decreasing cardiovascular risk.31

GUIDELINES

The above discussion is not meant as a recommendation to carefully measure oils in the diet on a gram scale or to seek a potpourri of capsules. The inference from the data is the value of natural whole, fresh foods. If these are carefully selected, the quantities and ratios have already been taken care of by the best chemist of all, nature.

Certain practical rules of thumb will help alter the essential fatty acid content of the diet to enhance health:

1) Consume increasing amounts of fresh, whole organically grown fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts;

2) If cooking is done, cook without oils or cook with olive oil, high omega-9 commercial products, lard or butter (since these saturated fats are the most heat stable against oxidation);

3) Minimize cooking temperatures and try to eliminate cooking as much as possible;

4) Incorporate natural raw foods into the diet known to contain high levels of omega-3 and -9 oils;

5) Increase the ratio of omega-3 fatty acids to omega-6’s;

6) If wishing to derive omega-3 fatty acids from fish, poach or broil fish known to contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids (Fig. 33);

7) If fatty acid oil supplements are used, they should contain balances of the oils as described above and be properly stabilized with antioxidants (natural, if possible), packaged in light impervious safe containers (some plastic components will leach into oils) and nitrogen flushed. Supplemental vitamin E (200-400 I.U. per day) should also be consumed when any isolated fats and oils are added to the diet.

COMMERCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES

From a commercial standpoint, this new knowledge creates excellent opportunities to improve food nutritional value as Dr. Kinsella of Cornell’s Institute of Food Science points out:

The food industry (both producers and processors) should explore methods for adjusting the amounts and ratios of PUFA’s in food products. Successfully increasing the w-3 PUFA content of foods will require innovative approaches for controlling autooxidation and off-flavor development in such foods. The discovery of multiple and potent effects of eicosanoids and the apparent beneficial effects of w-3 PUFA’s has invigorated biochemical lipid research and has presented opportunities for making significant progress in the amelioration of atherosclerosis, perturbed immune functions. Cancer, arthritis, and thrombosis, the major causes of death and debility in the U.S. Knowledge of the links between dietary fatty acids and the incidence and severity of these degenerative diseases will provide further rationale for modifying the lipid prof1les of existing food products and developing new food products to improve nutrition and the quality of life of this and future generations. 32

Whether industry will responsibly act on this information remains to be seen. Since considerable pressure exists within the modern corporate environment to prioritize the bottom line, rather than simply do good, change will not likely occur until consumer demand creates a commerciable opportunity. An informed consumer using the power of the dollar will therefore likely be the ultimate reason our food supply changes for the better.

Training speed properly is essential for any team or athlete that wants to be successful. It’s that simple. In order to run faster, you must break down your speed training into a simple progression to maximize improvements.

Let’s start with the most important aspect of speed: acceleration.

Acceleration

Speed is a product of stride length (the distance your hips travel in a stride) and stride frequency (the number of steps you take in a given time period). However, you will not reach top speed by focusing on increasingly larger steps to increase stride length or taking short, quick steps to increase stride frequency. Instead, top speeds are created by applying ‘optimal’ force to the ground. Both length and frequency are improved by strength so better strength application results in faster speeds. Really, acceleration training is a form of strength training.

Ground contact times (the amount of time each foot spends on the ground) are another important factor to consider during acceleration. During the earliest parts of acceleration, especially the first two steps, you are trying to overcome (inertia) the weight of your body by moving it forward as quickly as possible. This takes a great deal of strength and power. The stronger and more efficient you are, the more you can extend your acceleration phase. Since high intensity sprint work involves recruiting specific groups of muscle fibers improves the efficiency of neuromuscular firing patterns, sprinting is taxing to the central nervous system. Once the CNS becomes fatigued, workouts quickly lose their effectiveness. Any type of speed work must be done with full recovery. Generally speaking, that means approximately one minute of rest for every 10 yards that you run. Sprinting is a highly technical activity.

Without full recovery, both your muscles and your central nervous system will begin to fatigue quickly, reducing the short and long term effectiveness of your training. For this reason, acceleration should not be trained with fatigue present. To optimize your success, full recovery must be adhered to both in your individual workouts as well as your weekly plan. It takes roughly 36-48 hours to fully recover from a speed workout.

Acceleration Cues

? Drive the lead arm (same as front leg) up as you begin to sprint.
? Drive out so the body is at a 45 degree angle to the ground.
? Keep the heel recovery low during the first 6-8 strides.
? Drive the elbows down and back. Keep the hands loose, but not open. Arms should remain at approximately 90 degrees from the elbow.
? Step over the opposite knee and drive the foot down into the ground to create maximal force.

Don’t force yourself to ’stay low’. This will limit the amount of force you can apply to the ground and leads to poor acceleration. Let your upper body unfold naturally. ‘Staying low’ will occur naturally if you are already strong enough.

Get Vertical!

At the beginning of your speed training season acceleration work is used. You can’t be efficient running longer distances without getting the proper strength levels and neuromuscular efficiency of the shorter intervals. As your athletes get stronger, you can extend out the acceleration distances. You want your athletes to be driving out as far as possible. The stronger the athlete is the further the acceleration phase will be and will set-up the athletes’ top speed better later on.

During acceleration, the foot should strike directly below or slightly behind the hips. You must be able to drive out so your body is at a 45 degree angle to the ground and step over the opposite knee and drive the foot down into the ground to create maximal force.

Horizontal to Vertical

Some athletes aren’t strong enough to hold and maintain that ideal drive phase. So, you must trick the athlete’s body and make it so that they have to get into the right position.Start your acceleration work on the ground and work your way up. In order to put the athletes in the best mechanical position, even without great strength levels, athletes will start with short intervals, in a horizontal position. As the athletes get stronger, the acceleration intervals are lengthened and/or the starting positions are more vertical.

Sample beginning of the season acceleration workout:

4 X 25 yards each (400 yards total)
2.5 minute rest between each rep/4 minutes between each exercise

a) Push-up ‘Down’
b) Push-up ‘Up’
c) Seated Start-Backwards
d) Seated Start-Forward

As the athlete shows that they can handle these positions and their form doesn’t break down at all during the 25 yards, you can start lengthening the interval distance and/or change the starting positions.

THE POWER OF INTIMACY

Have you ever been afraid of really loving someone? Have you been afraid of letting someone really love you? Most of us have known this fear. To love and be loved is what we want more than anything, so why would we be so afraid of having the deep, intimate experience of loving and being loved?

Why do we feel the most fear and anger with those we love the most? Why is it that domestic violence is considered by the police to be the most dangerous situation they can walk into? These are important questions. Let’s consider some possible answers.

As adults, we fall in love. This experience of loving at some point reminds us of how we were hurt in past experiences of loving. Of course, we are afraid of being hurt, no matter how big, strong or healthy we may happen to be. So we try to protect ourselves. This is human nature.

It follows that the more we love, the more potential we have to be hurt, afraid and angry. Fortunately the love can grow and mature in such a way that the pain and fear are minimized and we no longer need anger for protection from those we love. This happens as our skill, strength, knowledge and awareness expand, allowing the more vulnerable inner core of love to grow and expand into the world around us. You can imagine this by picturing the walls of protection, fear and pain breaking down, allowing the inner circle of love in Figure 6.1 to expand and blend with the outer circle of skill, strength, knowledge and awareness. So how does this happen in real life?

THE FIRST STEP TO TRUE INTIMACY

The first step to true intimacy is to know, understand and become intimate with yourself. Your self is what you bring into a relationship. If you don’t know this self or you feel ashamed of some part it, you will not be able or willing to share those aspects with your loved one. If there are wounds that have not healed, you will automatically hide and protect those wounded parts. You will not offer yourself fully to another, as is required for true intimacy, unless you feel good about the self you are offering.

This simply means that each of us must make a journey into ourselves to learn about our own defense mechanisms, to manage our fear and to heal our pain. Only then can we reach the healing core of love that is the heart of who we are. Only then will we be willing to allow someone else to really know and love us for all that we are.

The first part of ourselves we offer to others is what we consider to be our best self. We smile, shake hands or hug and act as if everything is just fine, whether it is or not. We show our social skills, demonstrate our knowledge and awareness in our conversation and try to give the impression of being a healthy, together person. This is the realm in which we operate at work or with people we don’t know very well. This is the part of ourselves we use to make a good impression on someone we like. This may even be all we really know of ourselves.

In school and throughout our lives, we have gained knowledge, skill, strength and awareness about the world around us–but we never really learned very much about ourselves. But it is your self that you are having trouble with. Your anger comes from you, not from somewhere else.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE DEFENSES?

One of the first things that happens when you start trying to get to know yourself is that you run into your own defense mechanisms. Defenses fall into two basic categories: fight and flight. In other words, we tend to protect and defend ourselves by either getting angry or getting out–of the situation.

Do you know how to take a break in a relationship to give yourself time to think and calm down? If not, are you trying to solve your problems with anger, and finding that you’re only making it worse? Do you shut down until you can’t stand it any more and then you explode in anger?

Don’t judge yourself at this point, just try to figure out what your defense strategies are.

Next ask yourself what you are afraid of when you are using these defense methods. Whether you know it or not, you are afraid of being hurt when you’re angry. Fear drives your anger. If you don’t know what your fear is, you will be blindly controlled by your anger.

Fear falls into two basic categories. We are either afraid of being attacked, assaulted, smothered or violated (something happening to us), or we are afraid of losing someone or something we love (feelings of rejection, abandonment and jealousy come into play here). All of your fears came from some past experience of pain.

To deal with your anger, you have to understand your fear. To understand your fear you have to understand and heal your pain.

We have all been hurt. That’s part of being human. If you don’t know your pain, you are unconsciously driven by efforts to avoid it happening again. This is what drives most of the anger problems we see in the world every day.

Your task is to learn how you were hurt, and heal those wounds. That will take the fire out from under your fear and anger, and you will be able to gain control.

You can do it. Don’t ever give up on yourself!

THE INTIMACY YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED

When you have experienced some emotional healing from your past wounds, you will be a more compassionate, empathetic and loving person. This will make your efforts at intimacy much more successful.

Intimacy is not just great romance, fun and affection. Intimacy is being close and connected through the hard times. Which means being comfortable with your own and your partner’s pain and fear.

I have found in my 30 plus years of counseling that when a person heals from her/his emotional wounds of the past, intimacy becomes possible for the first time. The skills are easy to learn, once you’re ready!

A Trip Down Memory Lane: The Sugarless Candy Store

As a young child often one’s fondest memory is entering the candy store or the candy aisle of a grocery store. Bright colored packages abound. The choices seem to be endless.

In Vermont, there are towns with true old fashioned candy stores. Wood plank flooring, maybe a scattering of saw dust, even the occasional pickle barrel! A delightful world filled with choices and choices and choices.

Would it suprise you to find out that the number one choice of candy and candy flavors is not chocolate, but… vanilla! It’s true as unbelievable as it sounds.

Think of all the possibilities staring a child literal face to face since many counters are conveniently put at not adult height, but child hand height. There’s a reason for this, ye old marketing tactic!

Imagine now a candy store counter, child and adult height, filled not with sugar-laden, teeth-decaying, calorie-engourging sweets, but your choice of the finest in sugarless candy and chocolate selections. Is this the dream of a sci-fi movie? No it is not. Nowadays we do have choices - and as time evolves (and rapidly) those choices are ensuring our choice of sugarfree or sugarless no longer means having to accept unappealing flavors and the byproducts of the sugarless product. Sweetners are making huge headway. Consumers can find delight in allowing themselves to choose sugarless candy based on pure taste alone. For those that begrudgingly have chosen the sugarfree sweet while gazing longingly at fat-inducing fancies have the satisfaction of full flavor without the rapid waistline growth.

All sorts of artificial sweetners are available on the market today. Unfortunately behind-the-scenes knowledge of these sweetners are never fully revealed to the public. You are most likely aware of just how many articifical sweetners never hold up and are pulled from grocery shelves. Sugar alcohols, the next step beyond, actually build in the blood and, for many, produce unfortunate (and embarassing) side effects.

Watching our waistlines means researching into the best healthy snack choices for ourselves. Read labels, make wise decisions.

Fred Goldman is the Founder of D-lectables. His company imports and manufactures high-quality, sugarless and low-carbo candy and chocolate and other great tasting sugarless products. You’ll find healthy snack choices at www.d-lectable.com http://www.d-lectable.com .

AP - U.S. Customs officials at Dulles International Airport discovered the charred carcasses of three monkeys in the luggage of a traveler arriving from Central Africa. The monkeys have been confiscated are being examined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Home Office has suspended the Highly Skilled Migrant Scheme (HSMP) for 27 days, pending the introduction of a revised scheme on 5th December 2006. No further current applications will be accepted after today, giving the Home Office time to clear the backlog of existing cases.

The news was announced, without prior notice, on the Home Office website this morning leaving applicants no time to submit applications under the present rules.

John Larkins, IND Managed Migration Business Architect, relayed the information to a stunned group of Immigration Advisers at the annual conference of the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) in London this morning.

Many advisers reacted angrily to the news accusing the Home Office of working against advisers by once again making important changes without warning.

Mr Larkins defended the Home Office saying that giving notice of impending changes only causes “closing down sales which flood the Home Office with applications”.

When questioned about whether the new rules would be tougher and require a higher standard of qualification, Mr Larkins simply said they would be “different”.

For more news on how this decision could affect your HSMP application contact your adviser or visit the Home Office website.

If you’re serious about making a solid commitment to a muscle-building program, you need to be very careful of who you take advice from. Bodybuilding and fitness is literally a multi-billion dollar industry with new websites popping up every single day. Many of the so-called “experts” out there really don’t have a clue of what they’re talking about and are only motivated by pushing expensive pills, powders and “miracle programs” on you that you don’t really need.

If you don’t watch your step you may end up falling for some fatal muscle-building pitfalls that will literally destroy your gains. In this article I’m going to expose 4 very common muscle-building myths in order to keep you on the proper path to the mind-blowing muscle and strength gains you deserve.

Myth #1: In order to build muscle, you must achieve a pump during your workout. The greater the pump you achieve, the more muscle you will build.

For those of you who are just starting out, a “pump” is the feeling that you get as blood becomes trapped inside the muscle tissue when you train with weights. The muscles will swell up and leave your body feeling bigger, tighter, stronger and more powerful. While a pump does feel fantastic, it has very little, if anything to do with properly stimulating your muscles to grow.

A pump is simply the result of increased bloodflow to the muscle tissue and is certainly not indicative of a successful workout. A successful workout should only be gauged by the concept of progression. If you were able to lift more weight or perform more reps than you did in the previous week, then you did your job.

Myth #2: Building muscle will cause you to become slower and less flexible.

Contrary to what you may think, building a significant amount of lean muscle mass will actually speed you up rather than slow you down.

Muscles are responsible for every movement that your body makes, from running to jumping to throwing. The bottom line is that the stronger a muscle is, the more force it can apply. Having stronger, more muscular legs means increased foot speed, just as having stronger and more muscular shoulders means the ability to throw farther.

Myth #3: You must always use perfect, textbook form on all exercises.

While using good form in the gym is always important, obsessing over perfect form is an entirely different matter. If you are always attempting to perform every exercise using flawless, textbook form, you will actually increase your chances of injury and simultaneously decrease the total amount of muscle stimulation you can achieve.

It’s very important that you always move naturally when you exercise. This could mean adding a very slight sway in your back when you perform bicep curls, or using a tiny bit of body momentum when executing barbell rows.

Myth #4: If you want your muscles to grow you must “feel the burn!”

This is another huge misconception in the gym. The “burning” sensation that results from intense weight training is simply the result of lactic acid (a metabolic waste product) that is secreted inside the muscle tissue as you exercise.

Increased levels of lactic acid have nothing to do with muscle growth and may actually slow down your gains rather than speed them up. You can limit lactic acid production by training in a lower rep range of 5-7, rather than the traditional range of 10 and above.

If you want to clear up your confusion and learn the truth behind many other popular muscle-building myths, visit my website by clicking the link below. I’ll reveal why 95% of people in the gym fail miserably and will teach you how to get on the proper path toward muscle-building success.

You’ve just landed the contract to design the interiors of a new chain of bric-a-brac retail stores and are now looking at various alternatives that you can suggest to your customer. After visiting a few well-known stores across town, you find that the most popular store fixtures seem to be in acrylic.

But why use acrylic? There are several distinct advantages that acrylic has over other materials:

? Durability: This is the main advantage. Basic store fittings will need to have a shelf life of at least a year - preferably more. They will also need to be safe against an elbow that knocks against them accidentally or a child that is attracted to a colorful display. In fact, in terms of durability, Acrylic is much longer lasting, especially when compared to lacquered or varnished hardwood.

? Lifetime Guarantee: Many acrylics come with a lifetime guarantee, thereby lowering your costs. You will also not have to keep too many spares to replace broken pieces.

? Strength: Acrylic looks deceptively fragile, but it can support a great deal of weight. In most stores, product size is not necessarily proportionate to weight. The same acrylic stands could be used to display something big and heavy as well as light or small. Acrylic also high-impact resistant.

? Flexibility: This is a wonderful quality that makes acrylic useful for any kind of display stand. It can be molded into any shape and have rounded or square corners.

? Optical Clarity: This quality makes acrylic suitable for all kinds of cases and stands. The transparency of the material will not detract from the items being displayed. They will also give the entire display a much ‘lighter’ and uncluttered feel. Plate glass has a dark green tint along the edge of the sheet, whereas acrylic sheets are clear.

? Lightness: The lightness of acrylic makes it easy to move display units around. They will also add minimal weight to the shelves on which the merchandise is being displayed.

? Duplicability: The flexibility of the material also makes it comparatively easy to duplicate standard pieces. A chain store needs to have standardized display units in all of its stores. Acrylic is the ideal material for this. If the store needs to expand, it will not be difficult to make additional display units to match the original ones. Acrylic has become a very popular material - so it is comparatively easy to get someone to make exactly what you want.

Disadvantages

Using acrylic for store fixtures has only one disadvantage:

? Scratch Resistant: This is the main disadvantage of acrylic - it scratches easier than glass. The way around this, however is to rub a good grade of paste wax into the acrylic. This will make the scratches ‘disappear’ and the stand will look as good as new!

There are 7 advantages to 1 disadvantage of using acrylic. This in itself speaks volumes about the suitability of acrylic for making display units. If you want to display your products to their maximum potential, use acrylic and you can’t go wrong.

Tim Pelcone consults with retail store owners to improve their merchandising effectiveness. In Sacramento he recommends Capitol Store Fixtures, www.csfixtures.com http://www.csfixtures.com , for the best selection in acrylic retail store displays.
