Great Ideas For Baby Shower Decorations

Being a party consultant can be a busy career. People who want help for special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, Christmas, and other holiday parties call me every time. A few of them even need help for baby shower decorations. Only a few people have enough experience for this type of party because baby showers are not celebrated as often as the annual occasions like Christmas or birthdays. Most people only go to one or two baby showers in their lifetime and some people never even get to attend one at all. This means that baby shower decorations would often require more planning than other kinds of parties.

Because baby showers are few and far between, people who need assistance for baby shower decorations have few expectations. People would also not expect to have an extravagant baby shower as oppose to what they would expect to have on more significant occasions like a graduation or a wedding. This gives you the freedom to come up with ideas on how elaborate you want a party to be, how much attention you need to devote to decorations, and the general theme for the baby shower. Light and tasteful baby shower decorations in my experience, work most of the time.

Other people on the other hand might consider this as an opportunity to explore innovative and creative ideas for baby shower decorations. Out of these world table settings elaborate ribbons, and custom made banners can make a baby shower special and memorable. If you want an extraordinary baby shower, seek advice from a party consultant such as myself are willing to serve you.

If your experience with decorations are limited only to standard decorations like ribbons and bows, napkins with cute prints of puppies, or cakes, and you feel the need to supplement your decorations don’t hesitate to seek help. If you are having doubts with your baby shower decorations or if you want to make sure that your baby shower will be one f a kind, try consulting a party consultant. Perfect baby shower decorations are the key to hosting an exceptional baby shower.

Backup Data On Your Laptop

You would be surprised to learn the quantum of data on laptops which have been irretrievably lost. Yet we don’t take time off to create essential backups on our laptops.

Lets face it - a computer is not a hundred percent trustworthy machine. The hard drive can crash, laptops get misplaced or dropped rendering it useless. To make sure that our precious information that is stored is never lost forever, we must keep back ups of the information stored.

Did you know that over the past years, over a million of laptops have been stolen in the United States alone ? when a laptop is stolen, chances are that it will never be found. In that case, the owner is not only without a laptop, but also without any information!

Back up data is all the more important if you have business information stored in your computer. Like desktop computers where you can create back ups, you can create back ups in your laptop as well. Using online services, remote back up operations, or many other methods are available which help you to store back up information on your laptop.

One of the best ways to store data is to burn a data CD. These data CDs have 700 MB memory space, which can hold a lot of data and files. To do this you need a CD/RW burner built in to your laptop. Most of the newer models carry this facility.

The biggest drawback of laptops is that the storage capacity and security system is not as proficient as a desktop. Since desktops are more powerful, they can store data, including backups in a jiffy.

Laptops were designed for people on the move - so the idea of keeping back up data never crossed anyone’s mind. When it does occur, it is perhaps too late.

As already mentioned the quickest and simplest way to create back up for your laptop is to use online back up services. Based on the speed of your internet connection, the operation can take from several minutes to several hours. Though the process is time consuming, but it is worth your while as at the end of the day, you are left safe and secure.

Keeping a back up data is always safe whether you use a laptop for personal or official use. Try and create your back ups at least once a month or more often, depending on the quantity of information you store everyday.

Collateral - A Means of Finance through Secured Loan UK

Secured loan UK is the multipurpose loan which can be used for any personal purpose or as per the needs. But, the condition in the secured loan UK is that the person must not only own an asset but must be ready to place his asset as collateral against the loan amount.

It is generally seen that the borrower who places collateral or asset with high equity in it, is offered with low interest rate and long repayment period. Not only these two benefits but the borrower can avail larger amount because of high equity in the collateral. Usually, the lender allows the borrower to borrow up to 125% of equity but it varies from lender to lender.

Secured loan UK has been designed in such way to meet the expenses of the person. Expenses such as:

? Holidaying

? Business

? Medical

? Buying a car

? Consolidating debts

Before availing secured loan UK, the person is always recommended to understand his financial requirements and the concept of secured loan, he is availing. The borrower must know his affordability before he goes for secured loan UK because missing any payment of installment will put his asset on risk. Here, risk implies that the lender can seize or even can sell the asset, if the borrower tends to miss any repayment of loan. Selling of an asset is not only the ill affect of non payment but, it also put a tag of bad credit on the borrower which comes up as a hurdle while performing in the financial market. So, it is always desirable to make timely payments. And, also he must not borrow in excess rather he must first understand his needs and should make an attempt to go for small amount for loan as they are easy to repay.

Secured loan UK is also available to all people that is, either good credit scorer or bad credit scorer. But the difference will be that the good credit scorers will be offered with competitive and low rates as compared to the bad credit scorers. But it doesn’t mean that bad credit scorers always have to pay high interest rate rather, once the score of bad credit scorers is improved then they can also avail loan on competitive rate of interest.

The most convenient way of applying secured loan UK is through online method. Online method bring an element of cost effectiveness in the secured loan UK deal which makes the loan further cheap and low rate.

What Is COM And How It’s Related To Registry Cleaner

What exactly does COM mean? What does it stand for and what does it do? COM in this article means Component Object Model and it is a Microsoft software architecture that can be called up to perform certain functions during the course of running a program or application as it is called in the Windows environment.

COM is an acronym for Component Object Model. This is a software architecture developed by Microsoft Corporation and is used to define a certain structure used to build program routines, known as ‘objects’ that can be called up for execution in a windows based environment. COM was first built into Windows 95 and Windows NT.4.0. many parts of Windows operating system and some applications developed by Microsoft’s developers have built in COM objects. Com Objects are stored in the registry of a system and are one of the things that need to be cleaned with registry cleaner.

So What Exactly Does COM Do?

Com is that part of a program that provides an interface between objects. A counterpart DCOM or Distributed COM allows the objects to run remotely. COM is implemented in different ways. Objects can be large small or medium and are written in different programming languages to perform any kind of processing of a file or code. Programs call on objects whenever the program needs the services of the object and the Common Object Model acts as the interface between the program and the object. COM will link common objects to different programs that need them. That is why even though the program may be uninstalled the common object will not be removed. This fills up the registry and slows down a PC. A computer registry cleaner will remove all unwanted entries from a registry and speed up the system.

COM and ActiveX

ActiveX controls can call up COM objects called ‘controls’. These ‘controls’ just blend into the program and become part of the program when called up by COM. OLE also uses COM services in the windows environment. Standard applications, such as word processors and spreadsheets, can be written to expose their internal functions as COM objects, allowing them to be automated instead of manually selected from a menu. Microsoft’s OLE compound documents are based on COM, which lets one document be embedded within or linked to another (see OLE). ActiveX Documents are extensions to OLE that allow a Web browser, for example, to view not only Web pages, but any kind of document.

Microsoft Corporation is increasingly making its standard programming interfaces conform to the COM object model so that there is continuity between all interfaces in the Windows working environment. In the beginning Microsoft Corporation decided to use the term ‘OLE’ to refer to its COM-based architecture, then later decided to drop that designation in favor of ActiveX. Now since both OLE and ActiveX are based on COM, the term COM is also used. As a result, any combination of the words COM, OLE and ActiveX followed by the words control, object and component may mean the same thing, or they may not, depending on the context they are referred to.

So in the end we are given to understand that Common Object Model is ActiveX and vice versa in relation to the environment they are working in. All this automatic activity only feeds the registry with information it may not have to retain. But there is no way to rid the registry of this data except with the help of a windows registry cleaner. A PC registry cleaner will remover from the registry all unwanted information thus making the system more efficient

Fix and Flip Goldmine Resources For Big-Ticket Buys

Fix and Flip Projects have many options when it comes to getting good looking products for a fraction of the price offered by other similar stores. Creativity is key and it doesn’t hurt to be a little cheap. Don’t go all out cheap and buy junk but look look look for the best bargain. Everywhere you shop whether at the hardware store, a great little bargain outlet store or even online. Always be on the lookout for great value. Your time is money literally. Once you do the research the profit will follow. Bargain hunters get paid to shop, just look at some of the amazing deals mentioned below.

The grocery store business offers a great example. Some stores are willing to advertise a loss leader (super low prices only on selected items) just to get you in their doors. They figure once you are there you will buy all of the other items you need that they get a good return on. Can’t fault them for their capitalism…this is America. But if you have the time and want to get the most bang for your buck find the special deals at each store and only buy those items from that particular store…I would not take the time and effort in groceries because that research is not the highest and best use of my time but you bet your bottom dollar I will take the time to do it for my materials required for a project.

Look at this example for instance.

A local tile company in town offers very cool 99 c tile and is good quality to boot…it’s always in stock and always available. They deliver for free because they know me and they are good about returns also. Broken tile is a significant factor when purchasing tile and they have replaced every time. Stock items are great because you can always add on later with the same type and return overages when necessary.

Now, while this tile store sells carpet as well, they can’t touch the Home Depot price for carpet (the cut pile berber with a fleck I used to use. I no longer use this carpet because it is an unnecessary expense. I can easily use a good regular carpet without the fleck and save over $5.00 per sq. yard. One project I paid only 50c per square foot for a descent berber carpet. Contractors warehouse is a great resource in CA for this large expense.

This could amount to hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars on a larger home.

Be smart with your material purchases…do the homework and take your list. Make notes to yourself so you don’t have to redo the whole process on the next deal.

Once you get your standards down and know what works for you then it’s easier to buy in bulk and negotiate discounts. STOP! Did you hear that investor friend? Buy in bulk and give yourself the power to negotiate discounts. This works with small, large, even the big box stores once you get to know the manager or owner. You never know until you ask, so ask away.

In fact, I have yet to use it but in this vein, there are companies that will offer investors discounts on materials and other big ticket items because of the continued sales potential. One is Direct Buy. Heavy initial member fee but I hear great discounts.

In any case shop it and do your homework…this is one of the areas that you have huge savings potential.

Lets look at some details

Appliances: I have a commercial account with a local supplier of appliances and because of my discount I was able to get a stainless dishwasher, microwave and range all for 1200.00 plus delivery. I don’t include the delivery because I would have to pay that anywhere.

Even with delivery comes in under 1500.00 and all in stainless steel. Took a little preliminary legwork on my part to get quotes and set up account but that was a one time deal. Now I just call in what I want and they send me a quote. I am standardized on items and no more time consuming trips to hunt.

Lights: lowes often has awesome sales on their lighting fixtures. In fact they regularly offer a contractor’s special 4 pack of standard surface mounted brushed nickel finish lights that amounts to about 10 bucks a light…Best deal I’ve found on this type of light. The other stores only offer shiny gold in bulk.

Bathroom lighting was a little trickier. At the big box stores I found only expensive options…lights over 50-70 dollars each which will add up when you are working with multiple bathrooms.

However, you will on occasion come across these same swanky type 3 bar lights in again brushed nickel at Costco for only 15.ea. What a bargain. Only downside is they are not offered year-round so when you come across grab more than you need if you know you will be doing future projects.

Chandeliers: again Lowes has the absolute best deal I’ve found. A very nice, elegant but simple candlelike chandelier that comes with optional covers but looks loveley on its own. Last time I bought for 79.00 but found an even better priced chandelier on sale again very lovely but different style for only 40 dollars. How can you beat 40 bucks?

This took hours of research driving to and from one store after another as well as frequenting specialty lighting stores and researching online sources…this is the best I’ve found but if you have other options would love to hear from you.

Another great resource for lights is Contractors Warehouse. I found a fantastic large entry light that would run hundreds of dollars in a big box store for only $39.00. I love a great deal.

Cabinets: I have some awesome options when it comes to cabinets and countertops.

Too much to go into here but will reveal in a future release in order to give the topic the attention it deserves.

These are just some of the many different things I have found in my hours of hunting for the best quality for the best price on my fix and flip projects.

Best Music Moments of the Big Screen

There is a slug of past and present movies with memorable musical scenes. Whether it’s Gene Kelly singing in the rain or Chris Farley singing about a fat man in a little coat, movies are filled with the magic of music. Here’s a list of our pick for top five musical moments that made the big screen a little bit bigger.

Top Gun (1986) - Pre-crazy Tom Cruise and pre-ejector seat mishap Goose, the most famous bar scene in Top Gun portrayed a pilot and his wingman, both in and out of the air. As Maverick and Goose performed You’ve Lost that Love and Feeling in an attempt to sway Maverick’s crush, the fighter pilots looking on couldn’t help but join in. While this scene made us grateful that neither Tom Cruise nor Anthony Edwards decided to pursue careers as singers, it also cemented both of them in movie music history. Even now, over two decades later, it’s hard to hear You’ve Lost that Love and Feeling without having a need, a need for speed.

Big (1988) - If ever there was a movie that speaks for the mantra “be careful what you wish for,” it was this one. Big tells us the tale of Josh Baskin, played by Tom Hanks, who wishes to be “big” on a magic carnival machine. He wakes up the next morning to find himself as a 13 year old boy trapped in a grown man’s body. While this movie had many memorable moments, the most beloved came when Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia played Heart and Soul and Chopsticks with their feeton a giant, FAO Schwarz keyboard. Not only did this scene leave kids everywhere actually wanting to take piano lessons, but it left us falling instantly in love with Tom Hanks.

Say Anything (1989) - John Cusack can be in as many movies as he wants, but to us, he will always be Lloyd Dobler. An aspiring kick boxer determined to woo high school valedictorian Diane Court, Lloyd is nothing if not adorable. Winning Diane over, he eventually succumbs to heartbreak when she dumps him. But wait, he has a plan: standing outside her bedroom window, Lloyd holds a boom box over his head, playing Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes. Though this scene has been parodied by everyone under the sun, it still remains one of the most romantic of all times. Of course, in this day and age, we don’t call this so much “romantic” as we do “stalking.”

Duets (2000) - A movie that included a well known singer, Huey Lewis, and several well known actors, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Giamatti, and Maria Bello, Duets is the story of six lost souls who find each other through karaoke. Though there are several great musical scenes in this movie, the best on has to go to Reggie Kane, played by Andre Braugher. His rendition of Free Bird - a rendition that in real life blended the vocals of Andre Braugher with singer Arnold McCuller - was a show stopper. Not only was it moving, heart wrenching, and touching, but it left the audience forgetting that Braugher was acting.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006) - This movie had it all: laughs, tears, and the really funny boss from NBC’s The Office. In Little Miss Sunshine, we follow a dysfunctional family taking a road trip from New Mexico to California to enter Olive, played by Abigail Breslin, in a beauty contest. The talent portion of Olive’s beauty contest is where the movie gets absolutly hilarious. Chereographed by her grandfather, we watch as Olive performs a strip-tease like dance to Rick Jame’s Super Freak. Not only does the movie show a lot of heart when Olive’s family jumps on stage in her defense, but this dance provides us with an ending that no one ever saw coming; Little Miss Sunshine is like the Sixth Sense of comedies.

Cheap Payday Loans

Payday loans are very short-term loans, with payment terms ranging from 1-2 weeks. The repayment of such a loan happens once you get your paycheck. Therefore, these loans are also called “cash advance,” or “payroll advance loan”. Cheap payday loans should be sought if you are not in a mood to pay twice the money that you have borrowed.

The benefits of payday loans are that there is no credit check of the borrower. The borrower needs to produce his previous salary stub on account of a confirmation that he will be able to pay back the loan. Apart from that, the confirmation and the approval process of the loan are relatively fast, too.

Follow these techniques to obtain cheap payday loans:

There should be a proper comparison carried out between various payday loan lenders’ fees before you decide upon the company.

You should also learn to read the fine print that the contracts include. This means that if a company states any conditions like they charge say $20 for every $200 that are borrowed, then make sure you know for how long the charge holds and things like that.

Learn to limit yourself to your needs and borrow the amount that you feel is necessary. Don’t borrow extra cash for “just-in-case” situations. This is because the repayment will be difficult for you. Also, payday loans are always available, so you can always come back when you need more.

If possible, ask your lender if you can pay back the loan earlier than the payoff period.. If not, then look for the shortest payoff term that you can afford to give the money back. This is because the interest rates of payday loans are higher as compared to other loans and what you need is a cheap payday loan.

The benefits of cheap payday loans are many. This is because they provide you with the required cash advance as and when you need it, and also a good market research fetches you a competitive rate of interest. Tiding over emergency financial crises is made possible by these short-term loans.

Cheap payday loans don’t hurt your pocket too much and also help those people who do not have a good credit score. However, payday loans should not be made a habit, as they are expensive even if they come cheap. For more information on payday loans, you can visit www.payday-loans-cheap-fast.org/ http://www.payday-loans-cheap-fast.org/ .

UK Economy Benefits from Migrant Workers

A Trades Union Congress (TUC) study ‘The economics of migration’ (published 19 June 2007) says the British economy is benefiting from the influx of migrant workers to the UK.

The far right have made accusations that immigrants are a drain on the welfare state. However, Treasury figures show that migrant workers are responsible for around ten per cent of economic growth and research by the TUC shows that:

? migrant workers are paying more in taxes than the value of the public services they receive
? the arrival of migrant workers has not depressed jobs or wages
? thanks to the vibrant economy, low-skilled workers have not lost out.

According to the report, unscrupulous employers need to stop taking advantage of migrant workers’ poor English and lack of understanding of their rights. Rather than taking it out on the migrant workers suffering the exploitation, a crack down on the minority of bad employers is required. The report recommends:

? proper enforcement of employment rights such as the minimum wage
? closing loopholes such as the poor protection enjoyed by agency workers.

TUC General Secretary, Brendan Barber, said:

‘Migrant workers are making a substantial contribution to Britain’s economy, and some sectors would collapse if they were removed overnight (see Immigration Matters article Save Our Senior Carers - www.immigrationmatters.co.uk).

‘But we do not do enough to protect vulnerable workers, whether migrant or indigenous, from exploitation. If migrant workers are treated fairly and paid a decent wage they can only add to the economy, and pose no threat to the livelihoods of the rest of the workforce.

‘The availability of migrant workers should not stop employers or government helping unemployed and disadvantaged UK citizens into work, nor stop efforts to give the low skilled the new skills they need to improve their job security and help them get better jobs.’

The TUC believes the supply of jobs to all workers - and services helping displaced workers and unemployed people to find jobs - needs to be increased to ensure that low-skilled workers do not find themselves pushed out of the market.

TUC research shows enforcement of the UK minimum wage must be a greater priority than it is at present. The Low Pay Commission and the Government must make special efforts to make sure that the value of the minimum wage does not fall relative to pay generally. Migrant workers who are paid less than the minimum wage are being exploited and the emergence of a large group of employers habitually breaking the law could undermine the minimum wage’s effectiveness for all workers.

Any unplanned population change can put strains on an area if the social and housing infrastructure cannot cope.

So, a share of the extra prosperity that migrant workers are contributing to the economy should be used to ensure local public services can deal with new workers, argues the TUC.

Identity Theft - Nine Threats & Nine Steps To Protection

The Bad News: Identity theft is escalating at a torrid pace. It has become one of the country’s top problems. The bad guys are finding more ways to steal YOUR identity.

The Good News: You can take control of the situation, become both reactive and proactive guarding yourself against identity theft.

Identity Theft Is Spreading Faster Than The Worst Case Of The Flu!

First, let’s understand just how bad identity theft has become in this country:

? The Federal Trade Commission says that there is an underground market for credit card numbers, social security numbers and ID documents - organized gangs or web mobs use and sell these documents for as little as $10 each. Some of these groups contain thousands of members. The amount of goods and services purchased with fraudulently obtained personal identity exceeded 52-billion dollars in 2004.

? US Department of Justice states identity theft is affecting millions of households in the U.S. each year. The cost is estimated to be six-point-four billion per year. According to the FTC, an estimated 10 million adults become victims of identity theft each year.

? The Department of Justice goes on to say that the most common misuse of identity was through credit cards, accounting for 50 percent of all identity theft. Next in line were banking and other types of accounts at 25 percent, personal information was 15 percent, and a combination of several types of identity theft was at 12 percent. The average loss for each identity theft was $1,290.00. Two-thirds of those surveyed said the theft cost them money despite credit card coverage.

? A recent State of the Net survey by Consumer Reports which covered more than 2000 households with Internet Access projects that American consumers lost more than eight-billion dollars over the last two years to viruses, spyware and various scams. The report also shows consumers face a one-in-three chance of becoming a “cyber victim” about the same as last year. It goes on to say that consumers lost $630 million over the past two years to e-mail scams.

? The average person today suffers through two or more “incidents” with their computer each year - the computer slows to a crawl, crashes altogether, viruses or spyware take over systems and more. It’s getting worse as computers become more complex and as we do more with them.

So, Who Is At Risk For Identity Theft?

According to the Department of Justice there are three groups that are most at risk for identity theft: young adults 18 to 24, adults who earn $75,000 per year or more and households in urban and suburban area. Interesting to note that about five percent of adults who earn $75,000 or more a year are hit with identity theft.

The continued growth of online fraud and identity theft are putting an enormous strain on the existing infrastructure for the Internet as well as our social structure. For example, the banking community has been complacent about security upgrades required by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council. They report that every bank in the country has not complied with their guidelines set for now. In an article titled, “U.S. Banks Complacent Toward Identity Theft Solution,” by PR Web, the single largest national security threat is a terrorist attack on our banking system. An attack aimed simultaneously at millions of user names and passwords within banks would shut down our banking system. This would instantly shut down banks worldwide. Credit/debit cards, checks, calls to the bank, would not work for at least a matter of days causing tremendous hardship and a ripple effect from no gas to “I simply have to take this baby food.”

Consider for a moment some of the potential social effects from this identity theft problem. What if citizens developed a lack of confidence in our credit card and monetary system causing economic upheaval similar to what we saw in the “Great Depression?” I know this sounds radical, but what if you couldn’t trust your identity to anyone anymore? What if you feared that your money, your identity was going to be stolen? It’s not unthinkable that you would store your money under your mattress at home or in a safe in the closet rather than possibly losing it to identity theft. If millions of people lost faith in our monetary system and the ability to keep their identity safe and then took all of their money home where they believe it would be safe, what would happen then?

We generally can’t control what happens outside of our personal environment, what happens at a bank, corporation or the government seems so far out of reach. There are, however, steps that we can take that will give us a better chance of protecting our personal information. The first step is identifying the threats and then taking steps to protect ourselves.

Below, I have identified nine identity theft threats and nine steps to protect our identity in today’s society.

Nine Threats To Your Identity

Here are nine of the most popular ways for thieves to steal your identity. Some of these are personally preventable and others are out of our control:

1. Stolen Company Data. Your personal information is stored on computers at stores where you shop, at your insurance company, your accountant, and more. It almost seems like a common occurrence where a company is hacked into and their customer’s information is stolen. This happens so often now that the crimes are rarely reported and don’t make the front page anymore.

2. Social Engineering. Identity Thieves are very clever. They will invent any way possible to fool you into giving your identity out. It’s called social engineering because the thief uses common social situations to get the information they want. Like a seemingly innocent phone call supposedly from your credit card company asking for your personal information.

3. Dumpster Diving. Identity thieves get a lot of their victims’ information out of garbage cans and recycle bins from old credit card statements and other personal documents thrown out carelessly.

4. Mail Theft. Your mail can contain valuable information: bills, banking information, credit cards, investments and more. Personal mail can often be stolen right from a mailbox.

5. Financial Account Hijacking. Once a thief has your personal information they can take over your personal accounts. You might not know about their activity for months.

6. Credit Card Magnetic Strip Theft. These clever crooks have tools to steal information off the magnetic strips on your credit card.

7. Discarded Computers. Your old computer really can tell stories. Even though you erased your hard drive crooks have tools to reclaim your personal information and use it against you.

8. Spyware and Viruses on Computers. You may not be familiar with the term ‘malware.’ It’s a term that covers all of the hacker tools that can cause harm on your computer. These tools include spyware, keylogger tools, Trojan horses and more.

9. E-mail and Internet Scams. Cyber thieves are getting more and more creative using scams like Phishing, Pharming and fancy come-ons to entice you to give them your personal information.

There Are Four Ways You Can Approach Protecting Your Identity…

One way is to do nothing and hope that identity thieves don’t harm you.

Second, you can be reactive. Reactive simply means that you are responding to all the material that comes your way. You are checking your credit card and bank statements to make sure nothing peculiar is on them. And if you do find something strange you contact your bank or credit card company immediately. Reactive also means that you are checking your credit report when you apply for credit or a loan.

Third, you can be proactive. A proactive approach is a more aggressive way of protecting yourself against the bad guys. You are constantly looking ahead and evaluating before giving out valuable information.

And fourth, combine reactive and proactive approaches. This is the best way to ensure you identity protection.

Nine Critical Steps To Proactively Protecting Your Identity…

Here are your ‘Nine Proactive Steps To Identity Protection:”

1. Begin to operate on an “I have to know everything” approach when you give out your personal information. Only give out your personal information to people you know and trust.

2. Protect your Social Security Number, credit card and other financial information. Do not give this information out over the phone unless you initiated the call or as we stated above are talking to a trusted individual from a trusted company.

3. Cancel all of your unused accounts including banking, credit card, licenses and permits.

4. At least once a year, if not more often, update and check your credit report and Social Security Earnings and Benefits Statement to make sure everything appears as it should.

5. Protect your mail. Make sure you have a secure locked mailbox to receive all of your mail. Always mail your payments and checks from a secure Post Office Box or from the Post Office. And, if you have a Post Office Box at the Post Office never discard your mail in a garbage can. Always bring your entire mail home.

6. Always crosscut shred all bank statements, credit card applications or information and important documents before discarding to recycle or the garbage. It is best to stir up the shredded documents to make it even harder for identity thieves to steal your information.

7. Purchase identity theft insurance. This will cover any losses incurred while recovering your lost identity once a crook has stolen it.

8. Invest in professional grade protection for your computer. The best protection available today comes from Managed Internet Security Service providers. The best security services include best-of-breed corporate grade security software for your computer, as well as unlimited service and support from trained security pros. Make sure it is the same kind of service that is used by major corporations around the world. Frankly, the over-the-counter and free security software programs available don’t keep up with today’s professional cyber thief. If those popular programs worked, why do we see the cyber-crime problem growing at a progressively faster pace?

A managed professional Internet security program should have the following technologies installed: A bi-directional or dual Firewall that prevents information from coming in or going out of your computer without your permission, anti-virus protection that is updated daily, and malware protection that is updated daily. Malware consists of spyware, adware, Trojan horses, keyloggers and more. It constantly changes so you will need a technology that keeps up with the professional hackers who want your identity. Your best bet is to find a professional security service that affordably manages all this for you.

9. Beware of e-mail scams like Phishing and Pharming. Phishing is an e-mail that looks like it came from a bank or business claiming you need to take care of a problem or your account will be closed down. It takes you to a page to fill out your personal information. Meanwhile, Pharming is redirecting your computer from a legitimate to a fake web site. For example, you may think that you are going to your banking site, but instead are redirected to a site that looks like your banks web site, but is hosted by an identity thief.

Identity theft continues to grow at a torrid pace. Millions of people in the United States will lose their identity to thieves in the coming year. Many of them will suffer for years trying to clean up the mess that was left behind.

The bad news is we can’t control all of the identity threats we face each day. The good news is there are reactive and proactive steps we can take to protect ourselves against personal tragedy.
